Incredible Atmosphere
By: Anonymous from Texas
Date of Visit: October 2007
First off let me say that this resort is not for everyone. This resort is definetely for divers and for those who do not need a great deal of luxury on their vacation. Bananarama was clean and comfortable as well as within our budget. The new owners were helpful and assisted us with any need we had. The kayaks and beach chairs are free as guests and we enjoyed the complimentary breakfasts out overlooking the ocean.
The diveshop is truely what Bananarama is about however. Mal, our divemaster was extremely safe and shared a great deal of knowledge which we appreciated even though we have logged over 100 dives each. It feels safe to see the first aid kit and oxygen on board "just in case".
The beach was also a high point. The sand is an off white color and the water is the caribbean blue everyone dreams about. We enjoyed snorkeling right off the shore in the marine park, which in my opinion offered some of the best marine life we saw. I still can not believe the size of the parrot fish we saw.
The new bar and restaurant were just opening while we were their. The new palapa beach bar definitely offers the island dream we were looking for.
I would reccommend this resort to anyone.

review from a HONDURAN
By: valeska / valeska from honduras
Date of Visit: July 2007
me and my new husband who just got married, decided to go to roatan to spend our honeymoon,we didnt have time to look in to how nice was the place before we booked it being that nothing was really available since its busy season. so we took a shot at it, we were scared at first when we were on our way there thinking how the place might be, but as we arrive we realize it was a good choice, the owner came to greet us and even took our bags to the cabin, the beach is so close, im from honduras and in my country the customer service aint all that great, but this place is the best customer service your ever going to get, fYI dont expect places to be A five Star believe me wherever you go in honduras there is always going to be something that you wont like, so stop complaining and enjoy! for those who said the beach was far away, must have been a lazy ass person, because it cant get any closer. it wouldnt think twice on staying there again.

Wonderful
By: Deborah Pedigo from Sante Fe
Date of Visit: April 2006
My friend and I stayed at Bananarama last month for 2 weeks. We reserved one week and ended up staying both weeks. We are not divers but enjoyed the snorkeling very much. The management has doone alot of upgrading to the hotel in the last several months. It was obvious too as everything was clean, freshly painted, new beds that were very comfortable...... I do not know how it was before the renovations but we were thouroughly happy. We heard rumors about sand fleas and mosquitos. There were no sand fleas at all and the mosquitos were not too bad at night only. I will reccommend Bananarama to all of my friends and family.

cannot go wrong here
By: Lori from UK
Date of Visit: March 2006
My 5 year old daughter, my husband and I all stayed at Bananarama for a week. We saw a few not so good reviews but mostly great reviews. We would like to add another great review. My daughter had a wonderful time. My husband and I took a Spanish class while someone babysat for my daughter for free just to give us time. The rooms were very clean. The staff was great. The owner has a son that played with our daughter on the beach. This was the best.

Outstanding Vacation
By: Randy from St. Pete, Florida
Date of Visit: January 2006
I sent a group of 12 divers to Bananarama for a week in January. I have a diving travel business that I work on the side. It is important for me to find places my groups enjoy. Every single one in my group was very impressed with Bananarama. The rooms were very nice. The staff in the hotel and diving center were great. The diving was great. The boats and equipment were great. The island was beautiful. They said the owner went out of his way to go to the store and bank for them while they were diving. What would we change - nothing.

Excelente!
By: Bob Johnson from Fort Wayne, Indiana
Date of Visit: February 2006
My wife and 2 adult children visited Roatan and stayed at Bananarama last month (Feb., 2006) and had the best vacation of our lives. We all became certified divers there too. The diving staff was so patient and caring. We could not have done it without their patients. We stayed in one of their new king suites with a loft. It was very comfortable.
I had read some bad reviews on this site but they did not sound too real. So, we decided to go and this was a GREAT place. We are looking forward to returning in the summer.

A Great Trip!
By: Gordon Harveson from Dallas, Texas
Date of Visit: June 2005
My wife and I stayed with Bananarama for a week in June and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cabins are located in a small garden and are quite comfortable. You do need to remember that Honduras is a third world country. If you are expecting something like you would find in the Cayman's or the Bahamas, by all means go there. If you want a clean comfortable cabin, a good breakfast, an excellent dive staff and some of the best diving in the world go to Bananarama in Roatan.
We had planned a two week trip (our first to Roatan) and decided to spend one week staying and diving with Ron at Bananrama. The second week we intended to stay in the West End and dive with someone there. As it turns out, we did stay at Lost Paradise in West End the second week but we elected to dive again with Ron, Anja and Liber at Bananarama. The boats were very nice, they did a great job as our dive guides (we dove with all three and thoroughly enjoyed all 24 dives!), and the reef is unbelievable!

BANANARAMA - GREAT place to stay
By: Bob Johnson from Tampa
Date of Visit: June 2005
Myself and a group of 9 of my friends stayed at Bananrama in Roatan last week and loved it. The breakfasts were good (and free), the staff so friendly and the cabanas were exactly what we had hoped for. The diving staff and boats were great. They have the only real dive boats on the beach. We are already planning our next trip there for next year.

Take The Divers' Money & Run...
By: Sobhi Nahhas from Dearborn, Michigan
Date of Visit: May 2005
This is an instance when the ineternet actually has become a deceiving tool. The place was touted as a PADI 5 Star Resort. They have better places in central Mississippi!!!! The place 'aka resort' is 150 yards from the beach. We had to walk down a public alley to reach the resort. The rooms are dark and very small. The AC did not work. This is especially bad when we agreed to pay additional $10.00/day to use it! At the fourth day the owner finally replaced the AC with a functional one. He instructed the maid to turn it off when we're not around. So; it was the cat & mouse game of we turn it on & someone turns it off. It was always extremely hot when we came back from the morning dives. It was very annoying when we got into the room and it was hot because the AC was turned off. I got a few bites from the bed bugs. This coupled with the geckos and other noise makers made sleeping a full night a wish and a dream. Alcohol helped because we slept motionless in spite of the pain. We were never asked to present our diving C cards at any time. We're surprised when our Nitrox tanks showed up before we got certified. When we inquired about it we were told '...you've already scheduled to take the class so it OK to start diving using Nitrox before getting certified...' Very unprofessional. Of course; this is at an additional $20.00/day for the Nitrox tanks. The tanks capacity averaged around 2550 PSI. The boat has no dock and it was always a chore to climb it with 50 lbs of gear in 5 feet of water. On our second day the ropes got wrapped around the propellers. An employee had to swim some 200 yards to deliver a knife to cut the ropes. There were no tools whatsoever on the boat. The following day 5 divers (2 couples and a solo) did not bother to join us. The boat trips were very short. We did not mind that because the diving is good. The staff are nice. It is wise to buy some food or drinks at the beach's little store (independent) so that you may use their chairs. Otherwise; the cost for a chair is $5.00/day. The beaches are nice, the food is good and the people are great. I would go again to Roatan but not Bananarama with the current owner.

Bananarama a Terrible Place to Stay and Dive
By: Peter Nagy from Hartford CT
Date of Visit: April 2005
My wife and I were part of a group tht stayed for a week at Bananarama and were we dissapointed. First we had to pay an extra $10 a day to use the air conditioning and then it barely worked. The maid would turn the AC off every day and then the room would not cool off until the next morning about 3-4 AM, so effectively there was no AC in the afternoon or evening when we were getting ready for bed. In actuality, we were paying for AC and really never had it except for a few hours in the mornings. When we complained the owner and manager they told us it would be fixed but nothing ever happened. The resort is not on the beach and you have to walk down a path to get to the beach and if you want to sit on the beach in a beach chair, you have to rent one for $5 a day, so much for a beach resort!!! The dive shop is supposed to be a 5 star PADI outfit but they sure did not act like one, no one even asked to see our C cards before they took us diving. More importantly, when we dove with Nitrox they did not write down the O2 percentage so when I checked the tank I could not be sure if the check matched, then they shorted us on Nitrox PSI. The most any nitrox tank was filled was to ~2550 PSI, so much for extending bottom time with the use of Nitrox!!! I was very dissapointed with everything about this resort and would not recommend this operation to anyone who wants an easy going, fun vacation.

Please seek alternative SHELTER!!!!!
By: Delana Harris / dodeledy from Daytona Beach, FL
Date of Visit: June 2003
Oh my! Unless you desire to live the lives of the survivors on Lost or survivor island- Please do yourself a favor and seek alternative! I am REALLY big into researching our vacations that only come once a year! We are use to the beauty and high class of Grand Cayman but decided to 'rough it' a bit and try Roatan. The island is a bit behind modernization but untouched, and BEAUTIFUL! BUT we were very mislead by BANANARAMA's web-site and write ups on sites such as this! When we arrived at our 'hut' (really) we found a dilapitated old bed that springs were poking out of and it was pushed together to simulate a 'king' look except for the wooden rails down the middle of each side. The A/C was a joke! We paid $10 extra per night and it cooled the wooden box (our hut) down to about 90 degrees from 95! There were workers that arrived each day from the island at 7am bringing saws and hammers that were working right outside our windows- which were constucted of wood shutters- no glass here people! We booked and paid for 7 nights but BAILED out of sheer desperation after 3 and paid full price to stay at Paradise Villas across the dirt road! This place is truly beautiful and wonderful! I had seen it on the website but wanted to do the 'rustic' thing! PLEASE don't kid yourself into thinking rustic is a GOOD thing! Even Paradise Villas even had cold water showers- the island is still a work in progress BUT!!! The island is TOTALLY worth it! As long as you are a diver or snorkeler- you will be VERY pleased! The reef on the beach from the hotel is unbelievable day and especially NIGHT! The restuarants on West Bay beach are excellent - definitely try Los Rocas as much as possible! We went into West Bay a few times by water taxi and had a great time as well! Email me if you have any ? I wouldn't want ANYONE to make to same mistake we did! dharris100@cfl.rr.com

Nice People - POOR DIVING OPERATION
By: Kristen Smith from Overland Park, KS
Date of Visit: August 2004
I stayed for one week summer 2004 at Bananarama in Roatan.
This is a very unprofessional dive operation and did not meet the expectations of anyone in the large group of divers scheduled there for the week. The boats did not run for much of the time we were there. There were two instances when the boat was disabled while away from the shore -- on one occasion all divers came up to discover the boat was no where to be found.
Like most of Roatan, nothing runs on time, including this dive operation. Dives scheduled to start at 8:30am were often leaving at least an hour later. This was due to equipment (i.e. air) not being loaded onto the boat on time and boat malfunctions (i.e. a generator being loaded on board).
If you want to hang out on a beautiful beach and enjoy a nice staff and morning breakfast, this would be a fine place to go.
However, this is a supposed 'PADI Gold Star Dive Resort', and offers no such service. If you are a diver -- BEWARE -- you are diving at your own risk.
**Note: No refunds were offered for the multiple dives missed to boat malfunctions.
**Note: Roatan is beautiful and the people are very friendly. If you dive, you must do the shark dive with Island Outpost Adventures -- FANTASTIC!!! Otherwise, find a dive operation other than Bananarama so you can fully enjoy and experience this part of the Carribbean.
