Awful Vacation Destination
By: buckleup4886 / buckleup4886 from New Jersey
Date of Visit: March 2008
The Club Fortuna is a dive of a resort and should be ashamed to charge people to stay there. From the moment we arrived we were disappointed. We did not have any bell service to bring us to our rooms and we were given 1 key for the 3 people staying in our room. The rooms were dirty and as soon as we opened the door we found our TV remote broken, the bed frame on of of the beds broken, no wash clothes, our back door off the hinge and our safe broken. After spending a while on the phone with Guest Services, we had everything taken care of. The staff was rude and very slow. There were spring breakers at the resort and we had security come bang on our door one morning telling us to come to the front desk as we were being charged $61 for a plastic chair that was found broken behind our hotel building. Although it wasn't our chair, as our chair was still intact on our patio, the hotel manager said if we didn't pay the $61 he would just take it out of the credit card given as a security deposit for the room. We said he couldn't do that and he informed us that he could, and if we opposed he would call the police and have us deported. The food was awful, we weren't able to make reservations for either of the 2 "specialty" restaurants because they were apparently completely booked the whole week. There was nothing to do during the day. The staff had no interactive involvement with the guests. This all inclusive resort claims to have tips and gratuities included, but the bar tenders only served people who had money being waved around. If you weren't willing to throw money to them, you would wait anywhere from 25-35 minutes to be served at the bar. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Stay Away!!
By: Brenda Chappell from Fort Washington, MD
Date of Visit: November 2007
When we arrived we were absolutely horrified at what we saw when we opened our room door. It was downright depressing! No carpet, the bathroom scared me (looked like it was occupied already by bugs and rodents). There was no way we were staying there. We talked with the staff at the desk and they moved us to another room which we found equally bad. I immediately went back to the desk and made arrangements with my travel agent to get us out of there. We were booked for seven nights and I couldn't imagine staying even one night! Since this is the only all inclusive on the island, we relinquished all our free meals, drinks, etc. that had already been paid for and transferred that same day to the Shearaton. There we had to pay for everything out of pocket but that's how relieved we were to get away from that hovel. (Not hotel, but hovel). If your expectations are to have at least a decent room, don't book this place!!!!

travel agent DOES NOT RECOMMEND
By: Beverly / seatosea from Union, Missouri
Date of Visit: October 2007
My husband and I returned from Viva yesterday. I own a travel agency and am warning you not to go there. They are rated as 3 stars, but do not deserve that rating. The service was horrible, the food was worse! All of the entertainment started late, and was too far and few between to fill up the day. The room was disgusting and the staff ignored our complaint about the very noisy neighbors who insisted on staying up all hours of the night. The drinks were free, but watered down. We couldn't even taste the alcohol in them. The food was cold and bland. Birds fly around in the indoor restaurant, so that was disgusting. Activities listed on the pamphlet they provide upon check in weren't accurate, and when we need another copy, it was different. So, they hand out two revisions. It mentions pizza every night at the disco, but it didn't ever show up on time, if at all, and when it did, it was cold and hard. The DJ at the disco tended to play mostly rap music. The beach was ok, but it was hard to relax because vendors kept bothering us to buy shirts and jewelry or have my hair braided (which is very short). We ended up spending the last few days at another beach so we could enjoy our vacation. The Bahamas was lovely but this resort sucked. I will not recommend it to any of my clients.

Dob't Go There
By: Jane from Ormond Beach, Florida
Date of Visit: May 2007
A friend and I just returned from this resort yesterday. It was by far the worst place I have ever stayed at. We came over on the Discovery ship which was lovely, clean and good food. Upon arrival we were told we had to wait for an hour for check in. When we got to our room we were horrified. The room was filthy; peeling pain on both walls and furniture and the shower (no bathtub) was far from clean. We called the desk and complained and were given another room which was much better but about 1/4 mile from the activities. There were no soda machines nor ice machines so if we wanted these things we had to walk the half-mile to the main desk to get them. The food was horrible. Everything was served buffet style and it was never hot. We were able to make a reservation in the Italian specialty restaurant for one night and the food there was equally bad. The drinks were absolutely watered down. Never even got a buzz from them. The beach, however, was beautiful so we spent most of our days there. Very happy to leave the place and come home. This was a time-share promotion and just proves that you get what you pay for. If you're considering a vacation and you're ove 30, DON'T GO THERE.

Great time for a Great Price!
By: Papp from Orlando, FL
Date of Visit: May 2006
My girlfriend and I just got back from our 4 day, 3 night vacation and had a great time. The accomidations exceded my expectations.
My girlfriend made the purchase through "Paradise Vacations." It was a vacation package available on ebay. I was slightly skeptic and concerned about the package. It was only $600 for both of us. (It was $900 after $150 taxes, port fees etc per person.) Still, a great deal. I didn't know diddly about the Bahamas so I did some research about where we were staying. Most of the articles I had read on the hotel review sites had a high percentage of negetive or average reviews. I was concerned.
We traveled on the the Discovery Sun cruise out of Ft' Lauderdale FL and came to the resort. It was 2pm and check in wasn't until 3pm. No problem, the room was ready and we were in. The room was average but had everything we needed for the basics. If you're just hanging out in your room all day, why come to the Bahama's? The room was clean and was turned over everyday with fresh towels. I signed up for Viva's "by request" membership online before the trip and was happy I did. It was recommended on one of the reviews I read and it was worth it. Sign up on their website before you go and they offer you free upgrades and ammendaties that you wouldn't normally recieve. We had cheese and wine waiting or us when we arrived to the room. It was neat.
Besides the rooms, the resort was chock full of fun. It includes all sorts of activities to keep you busy and everything is easily accessable. I also liked the food! I'm a restaurant manager and chef and from what I read in most of the reviews, it sounded like they were serving prison food over there. Meals and snacks were constantly availble everywhere. The buffets were clean and the food was good. My only gripe was that the sauage links were always cold in breakfast line. Besides that, I loved it. Drink when I want to, eat when I want to, it was all right there. It wasn't the Ritz but I liked it just fine. The resort offers 2 restaurants on premise that are also inclusive. One is italian themed and the other asian. Don't even bother with the italian place. The food stunk. I met a couple of people that liked it but not many. The asian place was intersting and worth checking out once. The food was decent but the ambiance was attractive. Everything in the dining room is white and it had a nice atmosphere. When we went to the italian resaurant, they tried seating me near the kitchen entrance where I was entertained by a mixture of Sinatra muzac and Hip hop playing from the back kitchen. I moved outside and had the meal out there.
The staff was always nice (especially the entertainment staff.) Different folks from all over the world made up the entertainment group. During the day they worked in different areas of the resort and at night they did a theater show. These folks were always cool to meet and I enjoyed talking to alot of them. Most of them had great outgoing personalities and mixed with a steady diet of beer, I had lots of interesting conversations with people that I normally wouldn't get a chance to talk to. For example; I met a guy named Alex that was from Italy. He didn't speak alot of english but it was enough to have a discussion on classic movies like Scarface and Goodfellas, Rocky, etc. Actually now I think of it.... just about everyone I met there was super nice. I met alot of people there from all over vacationing. The jacuzi seemed to be where I'd meet alot of people to discuss what and what not to do during your stay. I thought it was entertaining. We even met friends there that we now stay in contact with.
We didn't have enough time to do everything that we wanted to. There is plenty to do at the resort and lots of fun excursions to partake in if you want. Our vacation went without a hitch. Absolutly everything was great except for 1 thing! TIME SHARE sales! I personally didn't mind it. I listened to them for about 2 hours and in return I got a discount on one of a list of activities. It saved me $40 on a trip to swim with the dolphins plus they gave us a discount on a return visit to the resort for the future. I figured a couple of hours out of my vacation to save some money wasn't a bad idea. Some of the people I met felt that they had been suckered in and were mad that they had to waste their time getting sold something on their vacay. Like I said, I didn't have a problem with it.
Look, if you have loads of money and you're expecting golden archways and the Taj Mahol, go somewhere else. For me, it was a great vacation for the money. Paradise Vacations on Ebay was awesome and extremely helpful planning our last minute trip. I recomemend it.

Avoid Wyndham Fortuna Bahamas Resort
By: Amy from Calgary
Date of Visit: May 2006
Hi my name is Amy, and Im a travel consultant in Calgary Alberta. I recently planed a holiday at the Wyndham Fortuna property in the Bahamas. My boyfriend and I payed $1023.00 for 3 nights at this resort, which was way to much for what we got out of it. I am not a "high maitenance traveller", but for the money I paid I expected a clean room, and good service. I didnt think I would have to worry about this because of the Wyndham name, unfortunatly, this was not so. We arrived at the resort to a room with dirty floors and paint peeling from the walls, the safe didnt have a lock, which the not so friendly front desk informed me that I had to pick it up from them. The food wasnt very good, and when they ran out of chicken or deserts ect. they didnt replace it. I had to ask multiple times for a glass because they wouldnt even replace those, and the used plates stayed on our table until we left. The first show we went to had a white sheet for a back ground, and they didnt even have a show on Saturday night. The beach was wonderful, but there wasnt a beach bar, and the Hamburger/hotdog stand that was located just off the beach had to deep fry everything because there grill wasnt working ( deep fried bugers, gross). We also rented a electric car from the resort, which we rented for 2 hours so we could go to the Lucaya Market. The guy who gave us the car neglected to tell us we had to charge the car at some point, so we ended up on the side of the road with a dead car. We went to the closest house and asked where we could charge our car, thank god we were only a short distance from one of the charging stations. We arrived back at the resort and the rental people didnt charge us anything extra for the hour late drop off . The last night we were there I decided to set up a wake up call for early the next morning, we had our flight to catch. Well, we didnt reieve any wake up call, thank god I woke up!! I think this resort definatly has room for improvement, we did not enjoy our stay, and I would not recommend anyone to stay at this property.

Worst Vacation Ever
By: Anonymous from West Chester, PA
Date of Visit: July 2004
I booked a vacation at this 'resort' for 7 nights and left after enduring the place for 4 nights. I could not take it anymore. The rooms are horrendous. They are overrun with bugs and I did not feel that they were clean. I took a shower in shower shoes. The open air restaurant was gross. Swatting flies and sweating was not appealing to me while I was trying to eat. I did not find the nightly shows to be entertaining and being in the middle of nowhere was not fun for me either. I moved to a hotel in Lucaya right on the marina and near the Lucaya Marketplace and enjoyed the remaining 3 nights of my vacation. When I read reviews that people loved this place and return year after year, it makes me wonder what they live like at home. I don't require 5 stars but I do require cleanliness. I must say that the food was tasty but I was a little grossed out with the flies being on everything. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Better than I epxected
By: Anonymous from Dallas, Texas
Date of Visit: October 2003
After reading several other reviews, I wasn't expecting much from this place but it turned out to be very nice. The rooms are average with less than average views. The beds were small (maybe only full-size rather than queen) and kind-of hard. The Cafeteria had both standard food (burgers, pizza, salad) and some specialty items. Most of the Pasta dishes, soups, and deserts were very good. I did not have to eat one burger during the whole week. The only other place to eat was the Italian restaraunt (for dinner) which served good Italian food. Now, for the complaints... The bar staff did not seem very interested in serving drinks and I would have liked to have a few more choices for alternate dining besides the Italian place. NOTE: My Snorkling review is based on my experience snorkling from the resort beach and not a tour. There was one small reff with some nice fish.

Sun, Fun, & Rum
By: Anonymous from Beloit, WI
Date of Visit: August 2003
This has to be the most beautiful, friendly beach resort ever! We found the staff to be exceptionally helpful, outgoing and always went the extra mile for us. The surroundings were the most vibrant colors you can possibly imagine and the food & rum are always available. The rooms were cool and clean.
I rated this 4 stars, it's not a fancy place- but laid back, casual beach resort. Perfect by my standards.

great short vacation
By: Anonymous from Embden, Maine
Date of Visit: April 2003
Great blue collar short vaction. Super meals and white sand beach. Foreign staff does a great job providing entertainment, local staff friendly but not real motivated. This place could sure use a shuttle service because it is off the beaten path. You pay way too much for taxi service. Prepare to carry your own bags. Bartenders do a great job keeping the drinks coming, however no two drinks are ever the same. Sun,sea breeze, and a beautiful view is what we were looking for and boy did we find it.
