Superb place...
By: Ramon from Amsterdam, Netherlands
Date of Visit: July 2007
My family and me stayed there for 30 days and it was perfect! We've had two garden studios next to each other, and nothing to complain about. It was clean and it had everything we needed. Good beds, airco, fridge, good shower. And yes, we had a broken mosquito shield, but you will get bitten outside in the evening anyway. Just close the window and turn on the airco! No Problemo! The office opening hours are great, you can ask Monique or Marjan everything about the island. I agree with one of the reviewers that Marjan does the extra mile. Extremly helpful and she knows good places to go to. Unlike one of the reviewers I really like the owner JP and his wife. He is a nice guy, takes time to talk to you about the island, kitesurfing or whatever. He lent me his bowkite for a week, so I could test it. As any kiter would agree, thats a very generous gesture of JP. Speaking of kitesurfing, Sun Set is situated 5 minutes by foot away of the fisherman's huts where you can learn to kite. Boca Grande is on the other part of the island, but there are no places to stay. Conclusion: If we decide to go back to Aruba, there is no doubt in my mind that I will book Sun Set again. I've stayed there for a month and saw other places to stay, but I made the right choice with SunSet, perfect place, perfect location. If you want extra info, just mail me.
Ramon.

Wonderful Piece of Paradise with No Worries
By: John White from Plano, Texas
Date of Visit: August 2006
Sunset Beach Studios is a great and wonderful piece of paradise. This was one of the best vacations ever and it was due to the hospitality of the wonderful owners (JP and Eve) and the very important member of their staff – MARJAN. Marjan was very patient and took care of your every request and question. JP and Eve take care of their employees just like they take care of every detail to their individual studios. You were welcomed as a part of the Sunset Beach family and embraced with hospitality and safety. Nora was the best housekeeper in Aruba. We stayed at the Boca Catalina Studios (Studio A). The Boca Catalina studio is an awesome location and gave you the feel of the true Aruba life. We were able to enjoy the beautiful private pool at the studios and the snorkeling at the famous Boca Catalina beach 1 minute away. If you enjoy your own kitchenette with all the amenities then this is the place for you! Every restaurant, car rental (Amigo) that was suggested by Marjan made our Aruba vacation a delight. JP and Eve have made Sunset Beach Studios a jewel in Aruba. Both locations are better than any high rise in Aruba because of the personal attention and the beautiful location. Our home away from home is at Sunset Beach Studios. No worries!

poor management skills
By: Anonymous from East Lansing, Michigan
Date of Visit: March 2006
Because of their management skills, we would suggest that you don’t stay at the Sunset Beach Studios
We were very excited to take our first vacation in two years and chose the Sunset Beach Studios. On their suggestion, to accommodate my wife, me and our two and four year old boys, we upgraded to one of their larger suites. The room was clean and suited our needs well. They suggest that you keep the windows open to get the fresh breeze, however the screens were torn and I ended up with 25 mosquito bites on the first night. We kept the windows closed from then on and used the air conditioning.
Our bad experience began on our fourth day, when they told us that we had to move rooms because of a double booking. They were not apologetic and caught us unaware at the pool. From discussions with one of their long staying guests (whom we came to like), we knew that it was his daughter and family that was to stay in our suite. The manager told us that we could take it up with him if we wanted to stay in the room- great management skills! We didn’t want to put our new friend, out so we decided to move.
Rather than move on the last day of our vacation, we asked if we could move a day early. They had a smaller apartment which we took. I spoke with the owner JP and let him know that we were not pleased with having to move. He offered to open the room next door so we could have two rooms. I told him then that this took “some of the sting” out of our move but we were still not happy. Regardless, we ended up spending three hours moving rooms during our vacation. This meant that our planned afternoon in downtown Oranjestad did not happen on this vacation. This was the first time that we had ever unpacked all our luggage on a trip, but for the last two days of our vacation we had to search through our luggage to find things. The new room did not have near the amenities of the larger room and the air conditioning unit was very noisy.
The kicker was when we went to check out and we were asked to pay the full price for the larger suite that we were in at the start of our vacation. They felt they did us a favor by giving us two smaller apartments. I told them I was only going to pay the rate for the smaller room. They came back by saying that I would have to pay the rate for stays less than 6 days in the smaller apartment, an extra $40. I again told them that I was not going to pay that rate and they conceded. Can you imagine having to barter for what you deserve on your vacation! They even had the nerve to say that they had emailed us about the change. We checked and they did not. They also said that we said that we were happy to move! Just what someone wants to do on their vacation!
This ordeal left us leaving Aruba very upset. Aruba is a great place and we would highly suggest going there, but buyer beware when it comes to Sunset Beach Studios.
