Driving Overview - About Driving in Bonaire:
Bonaire does not offer public bus service so renting a car is a good option. There is taxi service. Driving is on the right and you must be 21. Bonaire is a small island, without traffic signals, and signs point you to attractions. Because the island is so small, it's easy to find your way. Main roads are paved, but there are also unpaved roads and mud during the rainy season. Bonaire is known for it's shore diving so many divers do rent cars and head out along the coastline to find a dive site.
Driving in the Caribbean can be a rather unique experience and perhaps one not to miss. Many of the roads in the Caribbean, especially in islands with remote/mountainous areas, are not necessary well kept. Some with fantastic ocean side views, with twists and turns that excite you or make your stomach churn. It's especially fun for those of us who must get used to driving not only on the other side of the road, but the other side of the car - many of the 'controls' of the vehicle are reversed.
