Summary:There are a number of hiking trails across the island.
Description: There are a number of hiking trails across the island. Some offer spectacular views of waterfalls, some will take you through pine tree valleys and down again onto the pristine white sand beaches that make Guanaja such a wonderful place to visit.
Although trails are not marked, they are easy to follow, and you will find many local people who will offer their services as a guide. One trail leads from behind the airport into the hills, follows the ridge above Bayman Bay, and comes out around Michael Rock, which is the location of one of Guanaja's nicest beaches. From there you can walk northeast along the beach to Big Gully (the largest waterfall). You can continue on along the beach to the typical island village of Mangrove Bight.
Another beautiful trail starts on the western end of Mangrove Bight. This will take you over some hills for spectacular views of the island, and down to Sandy Bay. The mountain trails offer secluded hiking and spectacular views out over the electric blue waters of Guanaja's reef.
Don't forget to pack water, insect repellent and sun protection!
