Summary:Nassau is the capital city of both The Bahamas, and the island of New Providence.
Description: Nassau is the capital city of both The Bahamas, and the island of New Providence. It’s the most visited place in all of the islands and has a lot to offer. Stroll down Bay Street to do some duty-free shopping or browse the Straw Market and pick up some distinctly Bahamian crafts. Visit Government House on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. for the pomp and circumstance of the Changing of the Guards ceremony. Climb the steps of Queen’s Staircase, carved by slaves into a limestone cliff. There are 65 steps (at one point there were 66) to honor Queen Victoria’s 65-year reign. You can find a statue of her in Parliament Square, surrounded by government buildings built in the early 1800s.
