Twenty-eight miles north of Antigua lies Barbuda, an island of sixty-two square miles of unexplored beaches and wilderness. The terrain is completely flat and the elevation is close to or at sea level. This makes for easy yet exciting beach exploring and bird watching throughout the island. Barbuda is host to one of the largest frigate bird sanctuaries in the world. Barbuda is known for it's lobster its number one export. Barbuda is a very dry island and presents an entirely opposite picture of Antigua. You will find a more flat landscape and scruby/shruby vegetation. The population adds up to less than a couple thousand people and Barbudas main attraction are the wonderful sand beaches and the colourful underwater world. The island is best known for its seemingly endless beaches. Pink Sand beach, so named for the powdery pink sand found on the beaches, is seventeen miles of still undeveloped beach front with crystal clear water. In their November 1996 issue, Conde Nast Traveler named Pink Sand beach one of the ten best beaches in the Caribbean.

There is plenty to explore on a bike excursion; from the caves of Two Foot Bay, which provide shelter while wrapping around the north side of the island to exploring the interior finding the Coco Point Well to fill water bottles during a break. 

Visitors can rent a Trek 7000 bike with or without suspension. There are also guided tours that can take you anywhere on the island. When you arrive at your secluded beach destination, sleep under the stars in a large or small Eastern Mountain tent. ABOUT BARBUDA:
Barbuda visitors have no choice but to live as the locals do; no buses, a few taxis, a couple of rental cars and one small town. Need something to do while on Barbuda ... try walking to the local beach or reading, biking or relaxing and conversing with the locals.

HOW TO GET THERE:
The best way to reach Barbuda is flying from Antigua on a Carib Aviation plane (268 481 2403 or http://www.candoo.com/carib/). The duration of the flight is about 15 minutes. There are two daily flights leaving Antigua: in the morning and in the late afternoon. So visitors can comfortably leave Antigua in the morning, have an enjoyable day mountain biking in Barbuda and have the choice to spend the night in Barbuda or return to Antigua the same afternoon.

Because of the small size of the cargo hole of the airplane that takes you from Antigua to Barbuda, we recommend that you do not bring your own bike.
