All Inclusive - The Only Way To Go |

Getting There
If you want to leave the hassle of vacation planning to someone else - find a good provider. We booked an Air Canada Vacations all inclusive at Sandals at Dunn's River, near Ocho Rios in Jamaica. All ground and air transfers from Montego Bay were included. Getting out of Canada was not difficult. On arrival in Montego Bay, we were met by a Jamaican trio singing wonderful Island songs of welcome which helped pass the time as we waited in the que for Customs and Immigration screening. Once through the checkpoint, our ACV representative was front and centre with clear directions to our bus to Dunn's River. The trip was definitely interesting and gave us a feel for the culture. After a little over 45 minutes we stopped for a restroom break which also just happened to be a wayside outlet and bar. The cold drinks helped us through the intial heat effects. Believe it or not, some of our travel companions even had beer. Another short half hour ride put us at the Sandals Dunn's River, our base of operations for the next week.

Settling In Doesn' Take Long
The new arrivals were met in the lobby by Sandals Representatives. As we were greeted and given a welcome libation our rooms were being prepared. By the time the hostess completed her introduction, we were handed our keys and started to settle in. We took the traditional walk around to acquaint ourselves with the property. We were invited to meet with the ACV representative who explained roles and responsibilities while at Sandals and gave us the heads up on do's and don't. Shortly after, we found our quiet side of the property and headed to the pool. It doesn't take long to feel at home - away from home! The staff are fantastic, the food is fabulous and the opportunities to explore the area are awesome - although most off site tours cost extra. The climb of Dunn's River Falls is a must and a big tourist area. Now - if you're a golfer, the Sandals Ocho Rios Golf Course is a good challenge and worth the minimal fees for your caddy. Tipping these guys and girls is worth it as they can reduce your score by several strokes. Local knowledge! I would be remiss if I didn't mention the shopping trips. There are all sorts of opportunities and you can spend a lot or little. There are a few places with good deals and the local tour guides won't steer you wrong. Night life at Sandals is what you want it to be. The variety of entertainment, on the beach or in the theatre, is extremely enjoyable. The choice is yours and you can be totally involved or you can slide away to the quiet piano bar across the property where the evenings are very relaxing.

Well Worth the While
Dollar for dollar, you just can't beat the all inclusive. Caution must always be exercised though - as when you are warned not to go some where or behave in a certain manner - you need to heed the words of the staff carefully.
Just as you wouldn't go to the less desireable neighbourhoods at home - don't venture out into the unknown in Jamaica either.
BUT - a well planned trip to Jamaica is well worth the while !

 | | Jamaica Insights |
| Pros: "Fabulous weather, friendly people, great food and beautiful scenery" |
| Cons: "The economy is somewhat depressed. There are some areas which are not safe for the traveller and one should always know where they are going. Heed the cautions of your hosts." |
| In a Nutshell: "My wife and I are waiting for the opportunity to return to Jamaica, and in all likelihood it will be an all inclusive Sandals Resort." |
