Antigua is one of my favorites

Cruise ship provides first intro to Antigua


March 2005, Seadream Yacht Club arrives in Antigua. As we only have a day and as I love the beach I ask the cabbie for the nearest great beach. He deposits us at Dickenson Bay. I am in love with the perfect water and vow to return for a real visit in the not to distant future.

I return in Oct 2006


As I am traveling alone this time in order to do some serious thinking and decision making I choose a small intimate hotel, The Siboney Beach Club. This proves to be a great choice as I can walk to everything. It is right on the lovely and always busy aforementioned Dickenson Bay. I can observe goings on at nearbylarge hotels such as Sandals and walk and swim for great distances.

Will enlargement of Sandals spoil Dickenson Bay


I will have to return to find out but I did learn in an island tour by cab that there were definitely better beaches south and somewhat west of where I was. I know I will return



Antigua Insights
Pros: "Lovely friendly people. Beautiful beaches and relatively unhectic commercial atmosphere. Nelsons Dockyard, which I didn't do justice to."
Cons: "Not so easy to visit other islands like you can in the usvi and bvi."
In a Nutshell: "High on my list of favorite places"
