Restaurant Tip: "shark and bake rocks"
When you get to Maraca Beach in Trinidad make sure you go to Richards. It's located across the street from the beach where your bus lets you off. I had read about the shark and bake in previous edition of Caribbean and just had to try it when our cruise ship stopped there. It's about a 30 minute drive from the cruise terminal. We booked an excursion from the ship to Maracas Beach. It's a great beach. Lots of big waves, but the real reason we went was to try the shark and bake. It was everything your magazine had said it was. Simply delicious. The lady said it was Mako shark. Deep fried in a light batter and served on an unleavened fried bun or bake as it's known locally. Another bonus is all the condiments available. There must have been 20 different ones. Lots of veggies and hot sauces to try. It was so big it fed both my wife and me. I washed it down with a Guiness ale and my wife had an orange juice. The whole thing only cost 8 U.S. dollars. I gave our waitress a ten and told her to keep the change. That 2 dollar tip is 12 dollars in Trinidad money so she was pretty happy. If you get to Trinidad make Maracas Beach a must stop and definitely try the shark and bake. You will not be disappointed!!!
