Playa Bonita
Beach Rating:
Date of Visit: February 2004
Beach Tip: "East Coast Beach"
Playa Bonita is a picture perfect half moon shaped cove with a white powdery sand shore, palm trees and a restaurant/bar just waiting for beach combers who want to relax and enjoy the day.
The water here in this cove is that amazing crystal clear Caribbean blue with gentle waves and very little undertow. This inlet is more protected than most other beaches along the east coastal road so it is safer to swim or play in the shallow water near the shore on a calm day. You may want to try body surfing in this area.
The restaurant serves an excellent variety of seafood, various "carne" meat and poultry dishes as well as other local specialties. The delicious house specialty is "Cocteles de Mariscos" or Seafood Cocktail.
Directions/Location: Look for the sign on the side and roof of the restaurant/bar on Carretera Costera Oriente - Km. 37 - El Mirador is first marked beach to the south, Chen Rio is north.

La Choza Restaurant

Restaurant Tip: "Great place to eat!"
Wonderful local restaurant. The food was excellent. The chicken in the black sauce was our favorite. We had an app, 2 entrees and 2 HUGE margaritas for $25! The service was great- though we don't speak Spanish so some things were a little difficult! But hey-that's not their fault! Don't let a coupon that will save you $3-$4 bucks ruin a great meal and atmosphere! We are looking forward to going back in June!
Type of Restaurant: Mexican
Price: US$11-20
Directions/Location: Downtown- somewhere! The cab driver suggested it and took us straight there!

Beach Tip: "Nice beach at Playa Sol"
Playa Sol Beach Club has a beautiful beach with restaurants, bars, shops, banana boat rides, windsurfing, jet skis, parasailing, diving, swimming pool and a small zoo. There is also a giant inflated "iceberg" for kids to play on. It floats in the water just off the beach.

Babalu II
Nightlife Rating:
Date of Visit: January 2004
Nightlife Tip: "My kind of place"
Babalu II across the street from Prima Pasta heading towards the water. The owner and part time operator is an exotic lady from Barbados, who has another place in Greece. Small tables, 5 seat bar, narrow, intimate place, also tables outside in the back, very friendly people, jazz, no dancing, open late, more of mellow local crowd, than partying kids. Too small for a group, and most tourists would get bored, my kinda place.
Type of Nightlife Spot: Locals Bar
Price: US$11 - US$20
Directions/Location: In town: Corner of Calle A.R. Salas and Avenida 10
Phone: (011 52) 984 87 320 73
