Beach Tip: "Great Powder Sand Beaches"
There is a nice small beach right in the famous Tulum ruins. Be sure to bring your swim suit and towel if you are visiting for a day trip. But the best are to south, along the Hotel Zone road to Boca Paila and the Sian Kaan Biosphere and Puntal Allen all the way to the end.

Drive the road until you find a beach you want to visit. In some places beach access will be through the hotels and resorts you will be passing.

Don't leave valuables in your car while you are on the beach. Just take what you need.

    Accommodations Tip: "Simple but Fantastic..."
    Simple but Fantastic...

Cabanas Copal offers simple seaside Cabanas - most of which are situated on a hill/cliff overlooking the Caribbean sea.

The views are fantasic and the crash of the surf on the beach right below below lulled me to sleep each night.

If you like to camp or rent a cabin here in the USA you will love this place. But rest assured this place is not for everyone.

They bill themselves as an eco-resort and there is no electric in the rooms - only candles.

There is a fantastic restaurant on site where we had some very good meals - A small bar and an internet cafe as well.

You NEED to bring a flash light to get around the hotel grounds after dark - again no electricity!

    Type of Property: Hotel

    Price: less than US$50

    Unique Qualities:
If you are looking for something different and unique this is it. Our cabana was a rustic thatched hut with cement flooring. There is no electricity so each cabana is litle by candle light.

This is like "easy roughing it" in the Caribbean. If you like a little soft adventure and get by with out an A/C ... this place is uber cool!

    Restaurant Tip: "Steakhouse in Tulum"
Open air in main street in Tulum. Requested steak milanesa which is a thin breaded steak served with white rice instead asked for black beans and rice. Rice had no taste and black beans were mashed as if I had ordered refried beans and to top them off they stuck tortilla chips in them. Appearance of the meal was horrible. Steak was hard and very chewy. To makes things worse we had a couple from Bilboa,Spain we had invited. Our friends could not finish their meal.

    Type of Restaurant: Steakhouse

    Price: US$41 and up

    Directions/Location:
Off highway 307. Go left on main drag once in Tulum , it's on your right hand side on a corner street.
