The Town
The town of Isla Mujeres is actually a picturesque fishing village with quaint streets
that make getting around a pleasant experience. The town is at the northern end of the
island, which is only half a mile wide at its widest point. You can stroll through the
narrow streets and browse the many tiny shops featuring quality handcrafts, souvenirs and
jewelry. Restaurants boast delicious fresh fish, shrimp and conch.
The Beaches
The western, protected side of the island is known for its beautiful and tranquil beaches.
Coco Beach, or North Beach starts in town and stretches around the northern tip of the
island. This is the island's most popular swimming and sunning beach.
El Garrafón, on the southern point of Isla Mujeres is a
great place to snorkel. Some boat trips from Cancún make a stop here so those interested
can take a look at the multicolored fish. Rental lockers, showers and snacks are
available.
Shopping
Stores in Isla Mujeres boast a wide selection of merchandise. You can expect to find
everything from Yucatecan hammocks and reproductions of Mayan art to resort wear and
Mexican rugs. Exquisite gold and silver jewelry items are handcrafted on the island by
