The French and the Dutch have shared the tiny but diverse island of St. Martin/St. Maarten for almost 350 years in a spirit of cooperation and friendship.
Each side of the island maintains the distinctiveness of its own national culture. On the French side you will find comfort and elegance, secluded beaches, luxury resorts, and fine restaurants offering the finest of French and Caribbean cuisine. Many of the shops offer the latest French fashions. Small cosmopolitan cafés are invite tourists to relax in the shade while enjoying a good cup of coffee with fresh croissants and pastries.
On the other hand, St. Maarten features a busy cruise port, Philipsburg, with plenty of shops where they can find clothes, jewelry, liquors and plenty of souvenirs. While in Philipsburg make sure to visit Guavaberry Emporium on fabulous Front Street, featuring the one and only Guavaberry liquors and rums.
The island is located midway through the chain of islands in the Caribbean, and is known for its cooling trade winds allowing for sunny and warm weather year-round, averaging 82 degrees Fahrenheit in summer and just 2 degrees cooler in winter.
All of the above puts the island on the list of the dream vacations for many travelers all over the world.
St Martin is blessed with 37 great beaches, one for each square mile of the island. The beaches range from active Maho Beach, famous for water sports, to quiet Simpson Bay Beach – a long half-moon strip of white sand between a picturesque fishing village and the murmuring sea. And for a perfect no-tan lines tan you can visit famous clothing-optional Orient Beach, the home of famous Naturist resort - Club Orient.
Whether you would prefer the large resort facilities or the intimate guesthouses, St. Maarten has an excellent choice of hotels, resorts, condominiums, small, intimate guesthouses, timeshares and apartments. With over 2,000 rooms, there is a property to suit every taste.
