Sandals Royal Bahamian Rip Off

To anyone deciding on where to go for vacation!

My wife and I just got back from our honeymoon in the beginning of June 2007, and it was horrible. We stayed at the Sandals Royal Bahamian which I was told was one of their "Premier Flagship" destinations. I can't even imagine what the lesser locations must be like! The service in the restaurants and bars was either non-existent or just flat out rude. It was as if the wait staff was saying, "hey we already have your money, we don't need to take care of you!” The food for the most part was of the same quality you'd find in most chain restaurants just kind of blah. The third day of our trip is when we really realized what this resort was all about. We booked an excursion to swim with the dolphins, and we over slept the 7am departure. As soon as we woke up we hurried to the booking place and asked if we could reschedule for the Noon departure, or perhaps another day. We were told there was nothing we could do and that if we wanted to swim with the dolphins that we needed to buy another package. Of course there was no way we were going to give them another dime of our money so we left. After calming me down my wife suggested we just go grab some souvenirs for our niece's, and nephews, and we walked over to the resorts gift shop. While my wife looked around for things for the kids I went upstairs and looked at hats for myself. I took my sunglasses off and set them on a display table, and tried on a few hats but nothing fit. By this time my wife had finished shopping and said she was ready to go so we left. Now there was 1 other couple in the gift shop the entire time we were there, and 30 seconds later when I returned to grab my sunglasses they were still the only couple in the store. I walked up stairs where the clerk was rearranging the hats I had moved around but my $300 Maui Jim sunglasses were gone. I asked her for them several times but she just kept saying that there had been many people through the store since I had been there, and that one of them must have picked them up. I tried to explain that there was no way that "many people" or even 1 person could have made it up the stairs and back down before I returned, but all she kept saying was many people had been through. We decided that was the last straw and went to our room to pack. My wife checked under the bed for anything that may have accidentally gotten shoved under there, and that’s when we realized just how dirty this resort was. There was a half empty pack of cigarettes along with several other wrappers and just basic grunge under the bed. Just the thought that we slept in that place gives me chills now! It was horrible! We actually ended up spending an extra $1100 just so we could leave early, and it was probably the best spent money of the entire trip!

At first I decided I was just going to write it off as a bad trip, and forget about it, but after telling the story over and over to friends, family, co-workers, ect... I've realized that I wouldn't want this to happen to anyone else so I'm putting the word out!

So to anyone considering a stay at an all inclusive resort take my advice and try someone that’s not affiliated with Sandals!
