I would like to plan a trip to Anguilla. I was wondering what the snorkeling is like off of the beaches. If you have been to Anguilla, did you enjoy it? Would you go back again? Any information would be appreciated so I can make reservations soon. Thank you!

Hi, I was in Anguilla last spring and stayed at the Alamanda Beach House. The island is a great place to relax. We did some snorkeling, but I wouldn't say it was great. We didn't have a car, so were limited to the beaches of Shoal Bay. Try the web sight www.anguillian.com for more information. I would go back in a heart beat.

I know this post is late but it may be nice for others.
I was there last November. The place is wonderful. The beaches are beautiful and the resorts are amazing. I stayed at Cap Juluca. The place was amazing. The rooms were fantastic and the bathrooms were- well I can't even describe them but if I am ever rich I will have to have one jsut like they do.
We did not travel away fro mour resort so we were only able to snorkle on our beach, the beach next door and on one snorkelign trip to a well traveled spot.
The beach in front of the hotel is sand and very nice but there is nto rock or coral in the bay so all you see is a few fish if you go snorkeling there. As you go further out there are rocks on the bottom but it is too deep to see much.
The beach nex door is untouched and natural. Was a bit dissapointing cause it is not owned by the resort so they don't do anyhting with it but there was garbage strewn about the beach and soem in the water. This area is mosty a rock beach with some sand on the one end. We went to the area that had a sandy entrance to teh water and snorkeled there. I must say it was an interestign area cause the rocks allowed more room for live. We saw more fish, some coral and lots of other reef creatures like urchins and the such. Problem is that is is scary cause there are some rollign waves on this beach and the limstone rock are deep in soem areas and onny 2 feet in others so you can eaisly get yourself in a tricky and scary situation. we tried to avoid goign to close to any of the shallow rock cuase you don't want to hurt yourself on the rock or worse the creatures attached to it.
As for the snorkeling trip. It was a bit dissapointing because the water was turned up the day we went. Meaning it was not clear because the water had sand in it form underwater currents. Stil lwe were able to see soem very interesting fish. It was jsut hard to see more than abotu 10 feet down. It did nto seem like there were a lot of corals in the reef they took us to.
I am not sure what the other beaches hold but I woudl love to find out.
