Melia (Paradisus) Cozumel

Postby Ruth on Tue May 06, 2003 12:53 pm

Has anyone been to this hotel? How is the hotel, service, rooms, food and of course the beach????? Do you have to walk down cliffs or steps to get in the ocean?

WE plan on going in November, 2003.
Thank you.

We stayed here August 23rd-30th. The hotel is right on the beach; easy access...however, it's difficult to refer to the 8-foot wide strip of sand as a "beach." The water in front of the hotel is dirty, but you can walk about 30 yards South to the neighboring resort, and use their protected beach, which is MUCH nicer.

The hotel is really (at best) a two or three star hotel; NOT a five star. The food was far below par; I considered it inedible, really. The drinks are not bad - they use top-shelf alcohol, but everything is served in plastic party-cups; also not what I consider five-star.

The rooms we had (two different ones, since we were given the wrong one at first) were small, and not up to the standards of any of the resorts I've stayed at in Mexico, frankly.

There are no cocktail servers to be found on the premisis, which means you have to order and fetch your own drinks, even in the showroom/disco.

I would never stay here again; for the price, it isn't remotely worth it. The Occidental or El Presidente is much nicer.

Ruth my husband and I just returned from Cozumel where we stayed at the Melia for 9 days. They have great service, and the food takes a little getting used to as they do not serve tex-mex wich most Americans are used to. The staff is very friendly and the hotel beautiful. My in-laws like it so much they bought 6 weeks worth!! Drinks are only served in plastic if you are taking them out side as the do not want broken glass all over the beach!!!Other wise the are served in glasses. Any of the staff will be happy to get you anything you would like or need at any time, including coctails. All you have to do is ask. Have a great trip, it really is a great place to relax.
