Gran Porto Real Thanksgiving

Postby Eileen on Mon Feb 07, 2005 3:17 pm

Want to book GPR for Thanksgiving 2005. Have always done Ixtapa or Huatulco so this will be first trip to east side of Mexico. How crowded is Thanksgiving? I am used to my Mexico resorts being about 1/2 full during Thanksgiving. I've done Christmas and January...always packed with people so have gotten used to Thanksgiving being quiet. Am I gonna like this place???

Eileen,

Thanksgiving is not as croweded as the winter travel season & Christmas/New Years. Depending on the resort half full would be about right.

The Gran Porto Real is a nice hotel in a great location in Playa...though some recent reviews make note of the erosion of the beach and trash that washes ashore.

I really like the El Faro Hotel.

Have a great trip.

We stayed at the Gran Porto for our honeymoon 6 months ago and just returned from Ixtapa last week. We absolutely loved both places, but for different reasons. We had an excellent experience at the Gran Porto. If you just want to hang out at your resort, you could stay somewhere else. But, I you like to stroll the streets, shop, etc, you can't beat the Gran Porto. Plus, despite some reviews you might read, the beach is wonderful. The pool and entire hotel is also very well kept - big rooms. Definitely book an ocean view junior suite to enjoy the most. We were in Playa in October and it was not crowded. I would not choose Ixtapa over Playa or Playa over Ixtapa. We plan on going back to both. We're actually hoping to return to the Gran Porto in November or December.
Have fun!
Anne
