El Dorado Royale: Playa del Carmen Forum

We are planning a trip to the Mexican Riviera in October and are considering the El Dorado Royale. Any recent reports on the facilities, especially the "aroma" issues mentioned in other posts? We are a group of dancers, country-western music, but we'll dance to anything. Any comments on the dance floor in the disco lounge?

We(Me and My New Wife) just got back there. We were there from 5/8-5/16/04. The place is beautiful, there is still the problem with the sewage smell, but it is not that bad(at least were we were, oceanview bld 300). You could smell it in the morning but it would not be over powering. We asked them about it and they said they were working on it, they are a new resort (3years old) and that they hoped to have it resolved. So maybe by Oct. it will be gone. As far as the dancing in the "disco bar" it is an outdoor bar called the swing bar(because it has a bunch of swings not for swapping partners). They have a live band, and they play 70's & 80's music, didn't notice too much country. But it is alot of fun. Just have some tequila and let yourself go. The dance floor is not that big, and you won't find a whole of people out there. This resort is made for relaxing and just hanging out with your significant other, if you are looking for a partying place then I would go some where else. Don't get me wrong this place does have fun things to do it is just more geared for the couples. The thing that made us decide to go was the fact that it is on a private beach and no kids.
