El Dorado Royale

Postby Ken on Tue Nov 04, 2003 11:43 am

Am booked into the El Dorado Royale for two weeks over this Christmas. Have read some negatives about this Resort and am looking for reassurance that the 5 star rating is correct. Is there good snorkelling right at the resort beach? How long and how dependable is the shuttle into cancun? Alternatives? Any true insights into your experiences at El Dorado Royale would be most appreciated. Thanks. Cheers.

Ken,

I was there in September with a group of 10 couples. The place is fantastic! You'll love it. I went snorkeling twice and was very impressed. Beautiful place with top notch facilities.
If you have any specific questions, please email me. We will be going back next year.

It is a nice resort and the employees are very friendly. I would give it five stars because the rooms are great, with marble tile and everything is very clean and pretty, the pools are also great. Snorkeling is ok on the beach, we went on a snorkeling tour and saw just about the same things off the beach as we did on our tour, and it was fun to go just the two of us. The shuttle to Cancun is only at certain times and that's kind of a pain, but you can get a taxi whenever you want to and it's not that expensive. I would also recommend going on the feri to Cozumel, it was a lot of fun shopping and they also have many activities. My husband and I were there for our honeymoon late June through early July. We had a few problems with not getting our honeymoon package and the front desk was not very helpful, but in the end worked everything out. Anymore questions and you can e-mail me.

Hello Ken,

El Dorado Royale is our favorite, but we're not really into snorkeling. We had the best luck walking out to the road and catching a cab or a ride or even cheaper, the BUS!! They DO have shuttles at certain times. but the bus goes by every 20 minutes. Just flag down the MAYAB. It goes to Playa and Cancun all day long.

My wife have been to thr Royale two times, Oct. 2001 and Oct.2002. We rate these vacations as the best we have ever had. The food is quite good at all meals, don't expext Wolfgang Puck type of food, but it is above average. There are plenty of areas to snorkle, there are lots of rocks in the water. We swam in the ocean every day. There are sandy areas that extend out into the ocean, bring water shoes if wading. There is not a "Cancun" type of nightlife, but trust me, lots of fun was had in the evening at the bar by the Italian Resturant. The Casita rooms are very nice, the outside shower is the best. This resort is spread out making it seem like there are not many people there, even if there are. I can not tell you about shuttles, except they have them every day. I was content to stay on the beach and visit the swim up bars. If you are looking for a quiet, romantic vacation with your significant other, this is the place. Please feel free to e-mail me if you have further questions

Me and my husband Mike just returned from The El Dorado Royale yesterday. We went there for our honeymoon. We were very anxious to come back and write a review. The reason for this was after reading all of those negative reviews for this place we have to admit we were a little nervous about going, but it turned out to be the nicest resort we have ever gone to. Everything was amazing about this place from the rooms to the staff!!!!!!! The food is amazing, everything is awesome. They have lots of different restaurants to choose from. You just have to make reservations for most of them, but it only takes 5 minutes of your time. La Isla is the restaurant we ate at most nights because of the fact that you did not need reservations. The menu was switched up everynight, so it did not get repeatative. The presentation alone of the food told you how good it would be. They also have a beach bar which is more casual, and serves great food. They have a grill near the main pool which serves hamburgers, and pizza only. The Pizza is soooooo good. Oh and lets not forget the 24 hr room service I'm really going to miss that. The menu has alot to choose from and only takes about 10 minutes to get it.
The Jacuzzi is such a nice touch. It was a very nice way to relax after a long day of relaxing already(ha,Ha)! They supply the bubble bath, candles, romantic music and champaigne.
The balconys have hammocks, and chairs, which were very nice to relax in.
The onlt thing which wasn't the best was the beach. There are sandbags in the ocean, I guess to calm the waves, so it sort of wrecks the view,we always hung around the pools mostly anyway. The really nice thing about the beach were these nice liittle beds they had furter down along the beach they look really romantic. They have 4 posts connected to the frame, and white drapes that hang loosely over the sides, very private.
The nice thing about this resort is that every pool has its own swim up bar which I thought was really cool. The pools seeemed to be more relaxing because no pool was over crowded. When you go you have to say hi to jose for us at the "Los Tucanes" bar.He was our favourite bartender for the whole two weeks we were there.Just say jenn and Mike from Niagara Falls. Canada say "hi'.
Well anyways I hope you have as good a time there as we did. I would be really amazed if you didn't. If you have any other questions just e-mail us!!

We were there in October and had a wonderful time. There are a lot of really nice touches throughout the resort: the beds on the beach, room service, jacuzzi's, etc. We even had room service delivered one morning to one of the beds on the beach, awesome! We met lots of great people and had a blast, but I still would not consider this a 5 star resort. There were too many issues and difficulties. The reservation system was a real pain and a rip off. Unless you made reservations 3 days out, we were automatically told they were all booked up. However, if you give $10-$15, reservations became available at any time you wanted. Things tended to just be a hassle if they were outside the norm. One night at the Mexican Buffet I wanted coffe after dinner. I asked 3 different people and the maitre d, but never received any coffee. I was offered Mexican coffee (with tequila), but couldn't ever get the regular stuff. Also, the quality of the food/drink weren't 5 star. Overall, we had a great time and I'm happy we went, but if I were looking for a true 5 star, I would not recommend this resort.

Have a great time! Email me if you have any other questions.
