I am living on a $850 a month pension, and wish to do so in Belize. Can I get by down there on that per month? If so, where would I head for...what part of Belize. Any other tips? I could use all the help I can get. Cheers!

Check out these sites below. If your only income is $850/month and you have no other savings it might be tough. Also, Belize is one of the more expensive places to visit/live.

The main provisions of the law require a qualified retiree to deposit $2,000 U.S.each month or an annual deposit of $24,000 U.S. in any commercial bank in Belize. The applicant must be 45 years old or more to qualify.

What about moving to belize if you are younger and not pension age yet? Any info there?

Well I guess this depends....

Are you looking to move to Belize to work? If so you will need to become a legal resident alien and obtain a work permit.

If you are independantly weathly and simply want to move to Belize to enjoy life this can be done as well. However, normally you will need to exit and then re-enter the country every "xx" days to restart your tourist visa status. If you have money it's usually not a problem to show up buy a house/villa/condo and live there. At some point you could apply for a permanent resident alien.

I wish we were independantly wealthy lol but right now we will take thw work option.

We have friends down there who got work permits and one went on to become a resident. So we hope to floow along that way.

I lived in Corozal, northern part of Belize, for two years on $600 per month US. I don't drink, and didn't own a car, but I do enjoy friends, and dining out once in a while. I had to return to the states last Oct. when it was discovered that I now have lung cancer. (Medical treatment has a lot to be desired in Belize) I plan on returning there as soon as these doctors get their act together. BobL

Hey Mayor,

We moved to Belize...

We are from Canada, and lived in the Cayman Islands for 10 years...on Work Permits. While we loved it, it was stressful as you never know if your permit will be approved each year.

We moved to Belize, with an income of around US$2000/month, for two people. We lived here for a full year, and then applied for residency. Once we had residency, we opened a business.

We chose Caye Caulker to live on...the rental rates are good, and there is a bank, grocery store and post office here.

We found the move to be very easy...but I would suggest more than US$850 to live on...at least US$1000 as your rent will be at leat US$250/month.
