This place was billled as a 5-star by our travel agent. The manager said it was a 4-star. We weren't even sure if it was a 3-star. The place was dirty - the curtains and sheets were stained. The pool was ok, a bit dirty, but one of the days it was overrun by local people so there was no room for us paying guests. We didn't find any amenities on site, hard as we tried to look. Kayaking, tennis, etc all belonged to the hotel next to us, and they made that known to us. The quality of everything was lacking. The food was overpriced and of low quality - it gave me food poisoining.
Speaking of food poisoning, I became sick from their food and ended up being sick in our hotel bathroom. Feeling bad for the maid, I cleaned it up as much as I could while still sick. The next morning, it was pretty clean but smelled awful, so we were upfront with the maid and told her what had happened. She made a face and walked out. 2 minutes later, the hotel manager called us to inform us that we'd have to pay extra (surprise surprise) for her to clean. She had tattled. I told him that I had already cleaned the place, and that it was really just the smell and he could come check. He sent up the tower manager, who wait had to wait an hour for. While we waited for the tower manager, the maid came back, and we told her to hold off on cleaning till the manager came, and she got really mad. Seems like she wouldn't have gotten mad if she had been telling the truth... we had indeed cleaned the place well. The manager finally got there and he looked and said we had cleaned it pretty well and that they wouldn't charge us, so that worked out at least. But we still felt like we had to hide some of our stuff (like toothbrushes) for fear of revenge.
Other bad experiences that we had at the hotel included having people throw fried chicken wings over the balcony (quality of people at the hotel?), not getting served at all at the casino by the waiter because we look 18 (we're 25 and look young and don't assume we don't have money), the casino tried to rip us off and give us $4 of quarters instead of $5 (count everything), the staff was generally rude and acted like they're doing you a favor even though we're paying to stay there. We had also tried to order a pizza from downtown, and they sent us to the local pay phones (they were charging $1+ for room phone for local calls)... the pay phones were all broken and I went to the main desk about 50 feet from the phones and asked if I could just make one local phone call because their pay phones were broken and they said no, and sent me running all around the hotel to try and find another phone... I've never been in a place that wouldn't let you make a local phone call for a minute... even hostels have let me. There's so much more that was wrong but I can't even remember at this point.
The island is also horrible. The people try to squeeze every last cent from you and are super-lazy. It's just a horrible place.
If you enjoy spending a fortune for low or non-existent quality, then Bahamas is your place. IF YOU ACTUALLY WANT A GOOD TIME AND QUALITY FOR YOUR MONEY, DO NOT VISIT THE BAHAMAS. For less money than we spent on the Bahama Islands, we could have revisited Playa Del Carmen in Mexico, an absolutely gorgeous place with high quality, wonderful people who are friendly and nice and helpful and an all around great place to vacation. This was the first and last time we will ever be using Wyndham, as well as visiting the Bahama Islands.
