Hi everyone! I just came back from a trip to the mayan riveira in playacar. I stayed at the RIU Yucatan. I kept seeing these little animals that looked a cross between a rabbit and a rat?! i hope that sounds familiar to someone because i would really like to know the name of it! if anyone please could tell me if you know i would be very greatful. I thought they were really adorable. i was also tossing them apples and bananas to eat and they loved them. They also had a very short tail like a hamster. If anyone can help i would really appreciate it! thanks

I would also like to know what those little animals are. I saw coatimundis in Belize recently and really liked them. That can't be it, though, because they have really long tails. Hope someone e-mails me to tell what the animals she saw were. Thanks

I believe the animal is called a zereke.There is a picture of it at http://www.webshots.com enter riu playacar in the search window.It is on page 9.

They are called xzerekes. They have a picture of it on webphotos.com. I typed in Riu playacar in the message window. I think it came up on page 7 or 8.
