watersports at OCGFX

Postby Ron on Mon Mar 17, 2003 11:44 am

We're going to the occidental xcaret in April. Does the minimal "beach" mean that there ar not ocean kayaks and sailboats available? I just assumed there would be such ocean sports provided at a beachfront all-inclusive resort. Is the inlet beach really that tiny?

What about snorkeling and SCUBA?

Thanks for the info. We are going and have booked it so I hope it will be a very nice experience!

Sorry to disappoint you Ron...

We just returned from our 1 week stay at OCFX in the Mayan Riviera. The beach is sandy and tiered but yes the inlet is very small and is rocky (but only in the water).

We booked with Air Transat and contrary to their info, there was no kayaking, windsurfing or sailing available! If you are interested in snorkelling or scuba you have to pay to do this at the Xcaret Eco Park.

Snorkelling was $39 US.
We snorkelled at Xel-Ha (really good). We did not take a guided tour, instead we caught a cab for $25 US, paid our entrance at $25 US (an all inclusive entrance was $52 US) and then snorkelling was free (we had our own equipment). Lots of really neat fish to see including Parrot Fish!

On the bright side, the resort itself is beautiful and extremely clean with the nicest pools I have seen so far.

I hope this info comes to you while it still may be useful. Hope your weather is as great as ours was!
Sarah.

Where and what is Xel-Ha? This will be the first time my husband and two children have every done the all inclusive thing..I mean we have been to Island before but this is our first trip to the west coast and Mexico.
Of course it will be all my fault when the place sucks! Help
