My wife and I are going to the EDR in April 2003 for 8 days. It is our anniversary and I would like some info on this resort.

I just returned this week and had a very enjoyable time. You can check out the resort at http://www.datawebdynamics.com/edr/main.stm.

My only advice is to book your meals early so be at the reservation place by 9 in the morning. The Italian and Mexican are awesome make sure you order dessert in the Mexican. Also tip the staff and the service gets better and better. If you have any specific questions feel free to email me.

USE CAUTION: El Dorado Royale Overbooking Problem
Let me start by saying the El Dorado is a beautiful, secluded, romantic property. It would be a perfect place for a romantic getaway, anniversary or Honeymoon BUT... and that's a BIG BUT. My husband and I just returned from our Honeymoon which we booked at the El Dorado Royale 4 months before our trip. When we arrived in Cancun we were met at the airport and told that the El Dorado Royale had been overbooked and we would be going to another resort. How could a resort be overbooked when you book your accomodation 4 months prior? It took 3 days to get a response from the El Dorado management and to actually check in there. The Honeymoon package they advertise on their web site? Don't count on it - we were told it was not available. I have travelled to the Dominican Republic, Bahamas and Mexico to varying levels of resorts and have never experienced anything like this. Would I return to the area - yes. Never to the El Dorado Royale. Try the Barcelo Maya, Bahia Principe or Iberostar Paraiso - at least you'll get your booking.

Hi Bill. My wife & I went 2nd week in Jan 03 and had a great time.

Looks like some people had some problems during the peak travel times in Feb/Mar with overbooking. Dave's tip on tipping is right on.

Check out the Japanese restaurant too! Your wife will appreciate it. We were fortunate to get an upgrade to oceanfront which was a huge bonus. The resort was apparently full, but it was not overcrowded at all. It's laid out and maintained well. Can't say enough about the staff as the holas and a smile go along way. Happy Anniversary and hope the vacation goes well.
Phil
