I am pretty adventurous and have driven all over the world. However I don't drive in Jamaica. The drivers are crazy and the roads are in poor shape. (Jamaica, however, is VERY safe, despite what some people think). It costs (with fuel & insurance) about $100 a day to rent a car. You can get a comfortable vehicle with a driver for $80 a day and he will be yours for as many days as you want. The great tihng about that is the driver will act as your tour guide too. You don't have to worry about driving and he will take you to wherever your interests dictate. Drivers are licensed and very proud of their privileged position so they will not abuse it. I use 2 drivers out of Montego Bay . One is Nigel (I'm Nigel too, but no relation !), phone 876 391 6599 or Neville (nickname PAMPI) 876 583 6926.
Pampi is a little serious but very reliable. Nigel is also reliable, very friendly and informative.

If you visit www.roundhillestate.com (the link might not work but just re-enter it into your browser) and click on things to do, it will give you a wide range of activities from zip-lining to cliff jumping to horseback riding and swimming with dolphins...all along the North Coast.

travel info on jamaica

Postby travel2negril on Wed Sep 16, 2009 10:37 pm

For years, Negril's beach has been rated as one of the top 10 beaches in the world by many travel magazines. The north end of the beach is home to the large all-inclusive resorts, and to the south are the smaller, family-run hotels. This combination gives the Negril area a large variety of rooms, services and prices. South of downtown Negril is West End Road, known as the cliff area, which is lined with resorts that offer more privacy.
