tipping in Cuba

They have a hard time getting US money exchanged now. I would suggest tipping in the CUC (convertible peso). Have a great time.

You can get the CUC at the airport or at your hotel. There is usually not much difference in the exchange rate between both places but the rate can change daily.

We exchange a little at a time during our stay because if you have to exchange back into CDN you get nailed again with a bad rate. We bring whatever pesos we have left for our next trip. It buys beer for the bus ride. ;-)

Postby il1455 on Wed Jul 16, 2008 6:46 am

Hi ,

i'm just come back from Habana city and i stayed for 14 nights in a house in the Havana center,
This house is very near at the old Havana , Capitolio .
The people of this house are very and very nice.
I want recommend to you this house http://www.cubaparticulares.altervista.org/indexen.html.

The environment is very formal and sure.
Is present a lot police during the day and night
The owners have treated me as if I were in my house

If this house is full and isn't avaiable , the family can book other houses whit the same conditions , at the same price and by his trusted friends. They can if you want go in others province of Cuba , give you the address of a Casa particular sure and it is very important.

Good travel , bye

tipping in cuba

In general 1CUC is fine for waitresses, barmen, maids, etc. with maybe 5CUC for a tour guide. No-one expects you to tip every time they bring a drink, after every meal, or even every day for the maid. You can show your appreciation by sitting in a waitress' area on repeat visits to a restaurant. Tip the barmen once every other day or so and the room maid a little during your stay plus a larger tip on the last day. The service you will get will be second to none.

1CUC = 24CUP and the dollar have a 20% tax in Cuba .. not other currencies like Canadian or Euros or whatever .. thats why Cuban workers prefers non dollar tips.
