Sun Village Beach Resort

Sun Village Beach Resort - Puerto Plata
The "resort" is a two/three star hotel with terrible food and even worse service. It takes an entire day to check in. Some people had to share accommodations for one night, because of overbooking. Most of the rooms overlook an enormous parking lot. There are NO rooms with water views -- very misleading. Daily, you must rent dilapidating beach towels & you're fined if you don't return them on a daily basis. To give you a little insight as to the management of the property, the only ADULT pool is FREELY frequented by kids/children and their mindless parents. The concierge told my guests that my party is from NYC so our expectations are too high. The midday music blast on the beach will unnerve any guest. It turned out to be a moderately priced, non-restful, & annoying vacation. I have since wrote the Canadian owners of this "resort" and am awaiting a response. The only acceptable part of the trip was the flight in and out of DR!

I don't know where you stayed, but my room had an excellent view of the beach. It took us less than ten minutes to register. No one twisted your arm to rent a beach towel, they are there if yu need them and I found the ones I used to be it very good condition.(almost like new)I found all the the pools to be very relaxing. The music at the beach was also very relaxing. IF you are an eccentric senior citizen that believes everyone must wait on you and you alone, maybe you won't enjoy such a beautiful resort. I would suggest one of two things, either you are directly connected to a competitor or maybe you should stay in NY. As for the only acceptable part of the trip was the trip off the island, I'm sure the Island people felt the same way.

By the way, we stayed there in the middle of March. Glad we missed you.

interesting all these different perspectives. Indeed, some people enjoy it, some not. Expectations too high, indeed!

Isn't it incredible that there was nothing positive said about this well maintained property. The staff were super friendly, I believe because of it's newness at the time you arrived there were growing pains, however, I was there with a small group and we had an incredible time.

These posts are to be informative, the only info you provided was that you are a pompous arrogant jerk...

Thanks for nothing!!!!!!!!!

Dimples,

I see the same things with resorts I stay in as well. I show up find the resort to be good to above good (though perhaps not a full 4 or 5 stars) condition ... and have a good experience.

Then I see plenty of people post reviews that slam the same resort. Sometimes I think peoples expecations are too high (some travel agents sometimes overhype resorts). And I think at times, usually during the high travel season, some of these resorts simply drop the ball. I would say a major reason is staffing during these busy travel times.

Some people "just like to complain" others write insightfull, well written criticisms of hotels. Usually I can spot a "complainer" a mile away.

Good Travels!

I was thoroughly impressed with everything about this resort and my experience! The staff was fun and friendly, the food was very good considering it was buffet style (lots of variety in daily meals), and the accomodations were clean and very well kept. The pools were fabulous, the activities plentiful, and we had no problem finding our way around and planning activities. Whether it be getting a cab, booking an excursion, or getting our 100th drink, everything was at our fingertips.

I found that other people at the resort were thoroughly enjoying themselves as well as I heard many great things from other guests.

Overall, a+. My entire group was in full agreement that we would hands down go again.

This resort has made enormous strides over the last two years in terms of service and food.

I do not recommend it to people who have problems walking stairs, as the resort is located on a hillside. Beautiful facilities, one of the nicest hotels on the island.
