St. Kitts Marriott

Postby Lisa on Tue Feb 22, 2005 10:35 am

My husband and I just returned from our 8 day trip. Just want to let people know to bring lots of food money. In the morning it costs $4.03 for a SMALL cup of coffee and a tiny croissant. Add
$5.00 for the Boston Globe. Total $9.03. Not bad right? Or you can get the breakfast buffet at $20.00 perperson.
At the Steak house We ordered 2 french onion soups (too salty) one Ceasar salad, and one order of escargo. ALong with 2 glasses of wine. Total $108.00.
Oh and it rained everyday on our trip. It rains in St. Kitts a lot! In fact they give you 2 umbrellas in your room. No one talks about this though.
Our travel agent told us this place was young and fun. We found most couples to be in there 50s-60s. The nightclub was only open 2 nights.

I give this place ZERO stars. I do NOT recommend this place at all. The St Kitts Marriott is a glorified Holiday Inn.

It's always unfortunate when people have bad travel experiences. I certainly would blame part of the problem on the travel agent. He/she should have known what the atmosphere was like at the resort...like the demographic make up. "Usually" high end resorts don't draw a younger crowd.

Rain...well you just never know how the weather will be.

Nickel and diming you to death...I hate this too. In most high resorts the cost of everything is inflated beyond belief. Part of this, in my opinion, is to keep a "certain crowd" away from the hotel. Some resorts simply want to cater to a high end client and this keeps budget travelers away.

Despite this couples displeasure the St. Kitts Marriot does receive good ratings from other travelers.

I live in St. Kitts and come from New York. The Marriot is a real let down if you are coming here on vacation, TRUST ME.
as for st. kitts its gorgeous and an amazing island, but the hotel is run by people who are clueless and no idea how to please guests

Come to the island but stay somewhere else

Just returned from a week in St. Kitts doing hotel inspections.

The Marriott is gorgeous, but doesn't reflect the feel of the Caribbean. You could be anywhere!

Highly recommend Ottley's Inn or Ocean Terrace Inn for the "real" caribbean.

It is cheaper to eat at the beach bars. www.turtlebeach1.com or www.mrxshiggidyshack.com or local restaurants such as PJ's or Sprat Net.

St. Kitts is not know for the night life. It's not Acapulco, Los Cabos or Cancun.

It's fun to lime with the locals at the beach bars.

There are many great places to stay in St. Kitts. It is a wonderful island. I've been traveling there since I was 14 and still can't get enough of it at 28. My husband and I got engaged there and the following year we got married there. I can't speak enough good words about the island......

as for the Mariott.....

too big, too out of place... too much! That is what I have to say. It looks like someone docked a crusie ship in the middle of the island. However, there are people who do enjoy it. The property is, afterall, brand new. It is nicely appointed and the grounds are beautiful. They did however, kill the beach with all of their stupid cabanas.... that was my favorite beach and now all you see are their little huts all lined perfectly in tons of rows down the beach. They also put a huge concrete wall up that would make you assume that there is a reason for its existence. Don't let the wall fool you!

Go out and explore and enjoy St. Kitts. There are lots of great places to eat within walking distance of the Mariott, that are a lot cheaper!

There are also lots of other great places to stay, timothy beach is one of them. There are also many condos that can be rented that allow you to self cater your own vacation, if you are into that as well, such as Island Paradise Beach Village and the Sealofts.

In either case, I've been to many Caribbean islands, but St. Kitts has my heart! The people, the places and everything else about it make it worth repeat visits.
