So Much Negative ..

Postby Jose on Mon Jun 06, 2005 9:27 pm

Why does everyone post so much negative stuff about Aruba - we are thinking about taking the family. A website called arubasucks.com has even been started ... Gee whiz ...

Any opinions on the best place to stay? We are a family of 4 (two teenage boys). Thanks!

Are you kidding?

A teenage girl is kidnapped and murdered, the police force are 3
mokeys ( hear no evil, see no evil,
& speak no evil) and the court system
is so much home justice, that it would be laughable until you think a girl's
life is gone!!! Go to Aruba, just don't go to Carlos&Charlies, it could be your permanent last stop!!!

........and now a critical witnesses disappeared. Gee I wonder how that happened ? EquuSearch came home because locals would not rent them the digging equipment they required. Defense attorneys want the FBI out ....... How much more do you need to hear ?

Just was in Aruba in late June for ten days. Great place, and fantastic hosptality. I have been going for the last seven years. You want to stay up on Palm beach. A nice inexpensive hotel is the Aruba Grand. Higher end hotels are the Wyndham and Radisson. All of the hotels are on the beach. You may want to look at a all-inclusive package for food and drink.

People putting this place down, have no conception. The island is a relaxing and is 99% crime free.

Teenagers sometimes make bad choices, some pay dearly and some not at all, but the bottom line a choice was made.

Agreed many choices were made including the choice to cover up a now apparent murder by Aruba Authorities while administering their home town justice.

Take your money somewhere else.

For teens I think LaCabana is good. If you want lots of responses to your question try aruba-bb.com.

I agree there are many "friendly" boards out there to get good information. Most of the negative comments come from people who have never visited Aruba. (Maybe not even left their zip code)

Safe aruba

I have been to Aruba 3 times, including next week. I love Palm Beach and for a great all inclusive week, try the Holiday Inn.

I have travelled most of the Islands and Aruba is one of the safest around. You think one missing teenager is such a big deal. Look in your own backyard where kids are raped and murdered daily and the police never find the killers.

In Barbados, I was warned to NEVER go on the beach at night or I will be robbed or worse. And never go to the caves alone or I could be killed.

In Jamaica, I was warned to never leave the resort for feel of robbery or death.

In Dominican I was followed by guards with machine guns on the resorts.

I think that screaming about one teenage girl who may or may not be murdered in a country known for peace and quiet is a total waste of breath.

Aruba is a fantastic island. It is getting a lot of bad press because of the Holloway incident and everyone is blaming the WHOLE ISLAND for that incident. Aruba statistically is extremely safe!!!!!!! It is a desert island with a lot to do, great beaches, awesome restaurants, and I would return there in a heart beat!!!!!!!!!!! Just don't get drunk and go off with strangers, just like anywhere in the world, and your family will have a great vacation.

Hello, I know this mesaage is probably too late for you but "you shoulf go!"
My husband and I (43+45 took our teenage daughter to Aruba for 2 weeks.
We had the time of our life. We felt so safe there. My daughter and I even took the bus alone into town for $2 return we felt so safe. We did not see any uniformed police anywhere. When we asked why, we were told that Aruba has almost a 0% crime rate as everyone there has a job. There are no vagrants, therefore the presence of police would not be positive. We were told that they are there but are in civilian clothes so we would not know.
Anyways.. we stayed at La Cabana All Suites. We went all inclusive. I would suggest going all inculsive for 1 week, but for 2 weeks you might want to try 1 week of island dining. (island dining is expensive though)
Beaches are glorious, shopping especially jewellery was great. The people and the weather, can't be beat.
Cruising next week and stoping there agin, can't wait!
Hope this helps!

Compared to most caribbean islands, aruba is the best and safest. Best beaches, people very friendly. Best way is to look at all islands, and make up your mind. Most people who say bad about Aruba, have never been. Go first with a neutral mind, and make up your own mind. How many people in USA getted mugged, raped, killed each day? the same in England or any other country. Aruba is in my view one of the safest. We are going there next year. I cant wait to sit on those powder white beaches.

So much negative...

Jose- I don't know if you are still thinking about going to Aruba or not. I am new to this board. I am on several others about Aruba. I have been to Aruba twice and am getting ready for trip #3 in one month. I have been to several Caribbean Islands and Aruba is now my home away from home. There don't seem to be a lot of recent posts about Aruba. If anyone has any questions about the Island feel free to ask. I am not an expert by any means but I have educated myself that I could give someone a pretty good idea.
We don't stay in the hi-rise hotels so I don't know much about them. I know about good snorkeling places, good restaurants, shopping, and fun things to do while on Aruba.
