Sandals Ocho Rios

Postby CrystalSmith on Fri May 05, 2006 8:20 am

My fiance and I are getting married and honeymooning this November @ Sandals in OR. How is the resort? I have never traveled outside of the US so i have a lot of questions.

First...have you stayed there and if so what would you rate it? Higlights? Lowlights? Would you go again? Could you share some pics? Is there food available at all times? We are late owls and eat at weird times throughout the night. How are the rooms? What are the local Jamacian Laws regarding weed? I have heard conflicting stories and definitely DO NOT want to end up in lock up in a foregin country.

Thanks for all your help!

We have to SGOR twice; we are returning in December. It is often called "the Garden of Eden" of Sandals because of all the tropical follage, which we like. We have only stayed in the Riveria because of the close proximity of the beach and public areas. I have read the villas up the hill on the Manor side are nice. We have never stayed there but did a site inspection, including viewing the villas. They are more private with their own pools (shared with a adjoining villas) and with a great view of the bay. Jitney's are provided for getting down to the beach and Riveria bldg. The Manor does have a new pool that has zero entry (you wade into it). Between the joined properties (the former Beaches and SOR) that now make up SGOR, there are plenty of restaurants, including those at SDR. Food is available at all hours and with concierge and butler rooms, 24 room service. If you can afford it, I hear the Butler service is the way to go (you do have to tip the butler however - they are the only ones that can accept tips). I assume that they have renovated all the rooms, or most, since Sandals bought the property and turned them into Sandals. I know the concierge rooms at the Riveria bldg are nice as we stayed in one a couple of years ago and they were newly renovated.
Contrary to popular belief - weed is illegal in Jamaica. You don't want to spend your honeymoon in a Jamaica jail cell so I suggest don't do it. :!: Why take a chance?
There are a couple of other sites that have plenty of reviews and pictures:

Just curious.....do they have WINE there? All I hear about is Jamaican Rum and Red Stripe beer and of course, the great tropical drinks......

Yes they do, although the current selection is medocre. This fall however, they are going to change brands (Beringer I believe) and blushes to their selection. Also changing their brand of Champagne (don't drink the Wyclef champagne unless you want a massive hangover headache). They also have a manager's wine list that are better selections but cost extra.

Thanks for the tip about the champagne...and it will be great if they get Beringer wine there....that's good wine, and I'm pretty fussy!

Apprecite this board - this week we have to finalize with our agent.....thanks, everyone for all of the help.

I travel to Sandals OR in one week. I will be taking the chance the second I get there. Why would you go to Jamaica and not smoke herb? If I take the chance every day in the US why wouldn't I in Jamaica?

Can't wait to smoke and enjoy hope there are others who will join me.
