Royal Caribbean Cruise for the Family?

Postby The O'Connell Family on Sun Sep 25, 2005 2:04 pm

We are a family of five (three teenagers) who want to take a family cruise this coming winter. We are just starting to plan and we have no idea what to look for - are there staterooms that can accommodate our whole family?

Is one stateroom more cost effective than getting two regular cabins?

What ship would be best for us (two adults & 3 teenagers)?

What part of the ship is best to get a cabin - upper/middle?

Is it best to get an outside room?

Are the bigger ships better?

Which ships should we avoid?

We plan on leaving from Miami or Fort Lauderdale for a one week Caribbean Cruise.

Over the last two years we have taken our kids on cruises, the first one room the second two rooms. Go with two rooms give the kids thier own room, the cruise planners will help with this. Our kids were 12 and 14 and it made the cruise so much better. Cost was about the same because of early planning.

The higher your room is the better they say it is, my wife won't cuise without a balcony after we had one. Our first cruise togther we had outside with port hole. ( big deal, over rated )

We like Royal better but have cruised with Carnival because of price both are great to work with.

Avoid the front of the ship. We stayed in the best suite they had there, bu the problem was that it was in the front. The floor was no even flat. You feel every wave. The best place to be is in the middle floor in the back.

Family friendly

When I cruise with my husband and four sons(ages 13-21) I always try to get a balcony or Jr suite for us and put the kids in an inside across the hall. If I get a great deal I go for the family suites. The family favorite is RCCL and the Voyager class ships, however it is now the Freedom!!! I recommend it to anyyone, there is something for everyone! The FS is two bedrooms and 2 bath, huge balcony on the AFT, Gotta love it! Email me if you have any other questions. Cheri

Inside and Balcony

Postby caribbeancruises on Sun Apr 15, 2007 3:52 pm

As a rule of thumb: If money is an issue-go with an inside cabin, especially on the voyager class and freedom class ships because you will START out on deck 6 or higher. Oceanview is a waste unless you are claustrophobic and you will START on Deck 2(the bottom of the ship). Balcony is the way to go because you can use them-Have a drink outside, get away from the crowds etc.

I had been there last summer and if I remember correct there were offers for family tour planning. I did my tour plan through easyclicktravel and got some really best deals. I think you should give it a try.
