The rooms were outdated at CN as well, but no carpet. We visited right after Hurricane Ivan so the grounds weren't as perfectly manicured as you might hope. They had problems with the plumbing too. Sometimes we'd have hot water, sometimes we'd have no water.
Overall it was a nice vacation, but nothing to send a post card home about. request a room on the right side of the resort (closest to the gym). The walk to activities, pool, gym will be a lot closer this way as well as the lobby and restaurants. Food was great, couldn't ask for much better. Beach was okay but again probably becauseof the hurricane it was somewhat scraggly. Riu's beach looked very nice which is down the way from CN. I'd save the money and go to Riu. Unless you absolutely must have a couples resort, I think you'll be happier with Riu and save some $$$. I'm a travel agent and have visited Rius and have not had one complaint about them in any country I've stayed with them.
