Just returned from a Cruise to Cozumel where we rented a car and toured the island. While driving, we decided to look into the Reef Club...to see if it's a place we'd like to stay if we ever came back. The Reef Club looked VERY nice. Everyone we talked to that was staying there was very happy - all said food was good. Accommodations looked very nice, have option of hotel or villa rooms. Hotel is standard hotel room, villas are where it's at, though. Two pools, gym, nightly entertainment, non-motorized water-sports, horseback riding, all food/drinks are included in the price.

We were impressed with the casual atmosphere of the resort...very quiet and peaceful...appeared to be very well kept. This is a place where we would stay on a return trip!

Hope this helps! Sheila

Hi there. Stayed at the Reef Club last year and it was the most relaxing vacation we have had. Very Quiet resort..not a lot of kids screaming..not a lot of noise at night. The beach is nice and clean although you will want to bring water shoes as the entry is iron shore rock. Make sure and bring your snorkel and mask and if you are a diver of course you will be aware of the wonderful reefs. We had what we thought would be a terrible room ( right across the walkway from the kitchen), but we thought we would try it for one night and it was just fine. Drinking water is available at the bars ( bring a water bottle or container).

The food was very good and I never heard of any guests being sick. ( You must not drink the tap water) The town of San Maguel is just as wonderful and as safe as could be. But do avoid it on the days the cruise ships are in port. The island is wonderfully clean and safe. The staff at the Reef are very helpful and a little tip of a few american $ dollars goes a long way.

Have a wonderful trip!!

We have been to the R C three times over the last four years and are considering a trip there again in Jan. We have not had any serious problems with the rooms and have found the meals adequate, certainly not gourmet. We enjoy snorkelling and the relatively quiet atmosphere. Also, not heavy drinkers. Cabs are readily available to go wherever we wish for the day.

An increasing number of cruise ships, time shares, new hotels are certainly changing the island.

There seems to be an increasing number of negative reports about Coz accomodations and meals. This is a concern and we will be watching reports for awhile before booking.

We stayed at the Reef Club in April, 2000 and are booked to be there again December, 2002. We have two teens who insisted we return and they didn't get any argument from us. The Reef Club is clean, well maintained, the food is good, the staff friendly and the beach is beautiful. We recommend it if you want a quiet, safe, and fun vacation.

Hello, just returned from the reef....had a wonderful vacation. The staff are very friendly and fun. The nightly shows were excellent. This was the best vacation I've ever had..cant say enough about it! Make sure you rent a car and go to the other side of the island...very quiet, whole beach to yourself.

Stay in a villa room if you get the chance...ask for a free upgrade, thats how we got it. Try the diving and snorkelling in town at Papa Hogs...personal friends of ours...they are Canadians. Have a great time

Everyone says great things about the Reef Club but can you be more specific. I'm interested in the food. Could you tell me more specifically about the meals and what they consisted of. You can email me at Dollyspeaks@aol.com. We're planning on going there in 2003

Re: Reef Club Cozumel - Food?

Postby nealw on Thu Jan 09, 2003 1:22 pm

Dolly,

I have been through the Reef Club but I have not stayed as a guest. The resort itself is very nice.

As to your question about food: Most all inclusive resorts are NOT known for there gourmet food selections. Most AI food is average to a bit above average. Travelers just need to understand that when making travel plans. Also, especially during high travel season it is sometimes hard to get seat/reservation at the restaurants at an AI, so book a dinner reservation early in the morning. During low travel season some AI's alternate closing some of the restaurants. (This drives some guests NUTS and they like to complain...rightfully so.)

If fine dining is your thing you might consider just a hotel room and not an all inclusive resort. There are lots of great restaurants on Cozumel!

TO ALL: Do not go to an all inclusive resort for the dining experience!!! Go to an AI because it's a good overall deal - room, activities, water sports, food, tips, kids activites, most drinks etc. The value of an AI is not one particular thing or feature. It's a combo package deal. However, for many travelers if just "one thing" is not up to par their whole vacation is ruined.

My wife and I along with two friends stayed at the Reef Club Feb 18 thru 25th. We were in our room two minutes noticed that the toilet seat was not attached to the toilet, promptly fixed by maintenance. Kinda makes you wonder why the cleaning people didn't notice it, was it in fact cleaned prior to our arrival? The air conditioner sounds like a 747 landing and blows a little cool air but not much. It doesn't really matter though because the maid turns it off every day when she is in your room, so much for coming back to a nice cool room. Ceiling fan has two speeds on and off. The shower has hot and cold water but not at the same time, as you take a shower the water temp. fluctuates between COLD and warm all by itself. The T.V. didn't work I reconnected the coax so it would, not that I came to Mexico to watch T.V. but ten minutes at night is nice. Everything I read about the beds being hard is right on the money. They will hound you to attend a sales pitch for their time shares. The food was good, not great but good. I went to the Allegro four years ago and the food was about the same. There is really only one bar at the place if you want to get technical you could count the one in the basement that is reminiscent of someones rec room. So plan on standing in line for a drink at times. If you think your going to sit in a lounge and enjoy a drink, WRONG! its outside and if it rains everybody is under the only roof. And if it's cold which one night it was you better be prepared, or fix your T.V. and stay in your room. If the above would ruin your vacation, look someplace else. If you get this resort for the right price give them a shot, just don't expect the Ritz Carlton.

I AGREE with Mark Sierleja in above review. In addition to what says, I'd like to add the following: ONLY 2 TOWELS per room PERIOD- regardless of how many of you are stating there. Beds are indeed hard, A/C blows cool NOT COLD. Toilets may or may not work. Towels for around pool area are all gone by 8:30 am. Yes, you will stand in line for drinks ( and YES, they are watered down!- don't question it though, you will promptly be told that "you are on vacation in Mexico at an ALL Inclusive - don't expect the good stuff!") Beach chairs are all broken. Also, out of the 24 of us that went, I think only 4 of us actually had remotes to the TV in our rooms, the others weren't even aware that we had them, just thought they had to get out of bed 10-20 times when wanting to change channel or volume! HIGHLY UN- RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!

Reef Club Cozumel Advice

Postby ecollier2012 on Sat Jul 01, 2006 12:57 pm

Starting in July 06 only "Reef Club" time share owners are allowed to reserve the Jr Suites and Studio rooms located in the members section of the resort. If you are not a member you will have to stay in the smaller "hotel" rooms unless you can find a member who will sell or give you a guest voucher. Basicly each member has a certain number of guest certificates that they can share with friends and family.

With a certificate the average cost per room is 10.00 per adult per night for the Studio rooms and 20.00 per adult per night for the Junior Suites. You can also use the certificates to stay in the Hotel rooms for free if that is your desire.

Average savings will be around 400.00 dollars :!: with a guest certificate plus you get to stay in the best rooms in the resort.

 Jr Suite Member Rooms - The Jr Suites are large and come with a full kitchen, porch/deck with Hot Tub, full bath, king size bed, AC, TV, fold out couch, etc.

 Studio Member Rooms - The studio style rooms are just a little smaller than the Jr Suites. The Studio rooms also have a smaller kitchen and no hot tub. In my opinion both the Suites and Studios are very nice and can fit a family of four comfortably.

FYI - 99% of the complaints about this resort were from people who stayed in the hotel rooms. You rarely see complaints from anyone who reserved rooms in the members section of the resort. They treat you and your family like royalty when you stay in the members section.

Take my advice - if you plan to stay at the Reef Club find a member and get a guest certificate. You won't be disappointed.

If you don't have any friends that are members at the reef club you can goto this site  Reef Club Members Site to buy one from an existing member.

FYI - I have posted several hundred photos of the Reef Club from our trip in June. The photos can be found on the website  Reef Club Photos I hope to post the Wilma video to the same site soon.

This video was shot by a security guard at one of the hotels as the hurricane came ashore.

FYI - You can ignore any posts with dates prior to Jan 2006. The Reef Club in Cozumel was completely remodeled after hurricane Wilma struck the island in 2005.

They have spent millions on renovating the resort. It’s now better than ever.

Reef Club Room Numbers

Postby Char on Thu Jul 27, 2006 6:31 pm

We will be staying at Reef Club for 10 days over Thanksgiving this year. Going through a timeshare exchange, so will be in the members only in a Studio room. It looks like we have been assigned Room #3332. Anybody know the resort well enough to know if this is a decent location. Thanks!
