There are tons of small hotels in Playa Del Carmen right in the market area which is also on the beach. I am not sure how you get a list of all these hotels though - maybe a travel agent. The only name I know is Club Bannannas! It's small and I don't think it's All Inclusive though. It's in the standard books (Sunquest or something). It's cheap through the books....but I bet you it's cheaper to book it on your own and just pay for the airfare. Then the only thing you would have to worry about is getting from Cancun airport to Playa. There are tons of restaurants in Playa - some cheap and some that are not....but there is lots of cheap hotels there! Probably don't have filtered water though so be careful what you pick. Depending on your budget you may be able to book yourself a seat sale and stay at a great hotel instead of a 2 star. We booked a seat sake last year and paid 1000. for a 5 star and it was only 10 minutes away from Playa. Good luck!

There are 3 Riu resorts in Play del Carmen. They share the all-inclusive amenities, but the Riu Tequila is acrossed the boulevard from the Yucatan and Playacar, which are beachfront properties. The Tequila is the most reasonable and is an excellant value. Great service and food! You have to cross the street and pass the other sister resorts to get to the beautifal beach. It's a small hike, but worth the price difference. Of six different resorts I've patronized along the Mayan coast, the Tequila had the best service, food, and overall atmosphere. I stayed there last May, so you will have to check on current prices. I found a deal in our local paper and got 5 nights all-inclusive for $659pp U.S.(direct flight out of Detroit). It was well worth it!!! Let me know where you go and what it was like! I go back every year and I too, tyr to get the best deal I can find. Be safe and have a great time!
