Check out my website, trip reports and resort reviews with photos.
As to the dive shop, I NEVER use the ones at the resorts, they usually overload their boats. There are some excellent small operators who will pick you up from anywhere. I used Scuba with Alison , and it was fabulous. Reasonably priced, too ! My website is "Ursula's Ultimate Mexico Travelpage"

A good place to start would be my website. Lots of trip reports and resort reviews, including the Allegro. It's called "Ursula's Ultimate Mexico Travelpage" and is at

We stayed at the Occidental 8/10-8/14. It was one of our nicest family vactions yet. WE have been to the VIrgin Islands , Bahamas and San Juan .. but this was by far trhe beast Fanmily resort we have been to.(outside the US of course) The food was great and the staff was very helpful.
The beach was a 9.5 - Very private and low traffic - we never had a problem with over crowding. You can actualy snorkel right off the beach -My son and I saw a 4 foot baracuda the first day ..
The resort grounds were great. Although, the rooms are small, but what do you expect in Mexico.
Tip- Rent a car and explore the island - The other side of the island is fantastic- and untouched.

I spent a week there last September and am going back for 11 nights in a couple weeks. The food is so-so, the rooms are kinda old and bare but clean, housekeeping was excellent, the grounds are truly beautiful and immaculate and the pools are large and well maintained. Remember, this is Mexico, not Las Vegas. What I really like is the location, right on the beach and close to the dive sites. The dive shop was fine. The divemasters were all great, the boats bigger than most and perfectly ok. You come off the boat, walk up the pier and there are the rinse tanks and lockers for your gear. You are quite a way from town, pretty much out in the middle of nowhere. If you are going for the diving you will not be disappointed. If you are going expecting a 5 star luxury resort, you will not be too happy. The staff is mostly natives and are very friendly and anxious to please.
