Have you been to Playa before?? It depends on what your into. If you're bringing your family along then not far from Playa is the Xcaret, which is fun for young and old. It is a Mayan Eco Disney World. Not far away is Xel-Ha Eco Park which has excellent snorkeling. Also, Aktun Chen Dry Cave and Jungle Tour, located just South of Akumal. Like I say it just depends if you're looking for something family oriented or are you traveling solo looking to get away from the touristy stuff.
