Wedding- Riu Palace??

Postby Robin on Mon Aug 25, 2003 12:53 pm

We're looking at the Riu Palace Mexico as the location for our wedding next year. We're taking a group of about 30 people, ranging in age from early 20's to late 70's ... any thoughts from past guests?
Thanks!
Robin

My fiance and I are planning to bring a group of 10-15 people to the Riu Palace Mexico in February 2005. I've heard that the wedding coordinator there is not helpful or responsive, but I've also heard some horror stories from people who used Maria of Cancun Bridal to have their wedding elsewhere. Does anyone who has stayed at the Riu Palace Mexico have advice for a reliable wedding coordinator in Playa del Carmen?

Thanks for any help,
Jessica

I was just married at the Palace on May 6, 2004. We stayed at the Tequila across the street and when we arrived we were informed that our wedding coordinator had quit. We were instructed to see the coordinator at the Palace. She was pretty stressed about not knowing about our wedding but they made the arrangements anyhow. It was pretty simple. We filled out paperwork; choose flowers, a cake and a wedding area. Then we had our blood tests.

We had come to the resort thinking we were doing a garden wedding. I pictured a garden, but their idea of a garden wedding was back from the beach under the palm trees. I didn't want to stand in the sand so we changed our mind and did the wedding at the gazebo in the centre of the resort. It was beautiful. Our pictures look amazing with the resort in the background and the gazebo was decorated simple and tasteful.

I seen a wedding on the beach when we were getting photos taken and was glad I didn't choose that area. It was pretty windy at the beach.

The only other problem we had was getting our hair done at the Salon. The palace has its own salon and they book back to back. Another wedding had booked before us and were late. I had 4 girls, myself and 2 mothers who were booked for 12:30 to 2:30 for our wedding at 4. The 12:30 appointments were backed up to 1:30 because the group before had come in late and they were being very picky with their hair and makeup. Our last girl was finished at 3:30 with only 15 minutes to do her own makeup. They had told me that it would have been better to have booked them to come to our room because there is not enough room in the salon to do more than 3 people at time. It wasn't their fault but we wouldn't have had to wait so long if they had come to our room.

After the wedding we had pictures taken and I would have to say the Photographer was pretty damned good. Nothing like a super professional but definitely not amateur.

After pictures we went back over to our resort at the Tequila and had dinner. They had the wedding cake their and we did the traditional cutting of the cake.

Everything was short and sweet and our group of 24 had an amazing time. I have zero regrets.

The photographer came to our resort the next day with a photo album of all the pictures we had chosen. His pictures were good enough that we chose to pay $250 US for the CD. We have a total of 122 pictures.

Any other questions just email me.

riu palace wedding

My son is getting married at the Riu Palace (Riviera Maya). Some of the guests are young and cannot afford the $330/day rooms. Is it possible to stay at some other resort (not Riu property) and still come to the wedding ceremony and have dinner with the bridal party?
