I will be stayingin Tulum. Where is the nearest location to rent a car?

The best place to rent a car is in Cancun or Playa del Carmen. I don't believe there are any "national" or "international" car rental companies that have offices in Tulum - anyone please correct me if I am wrong.

That being said I have meet one couple that did manage to rent a car privately while in Tulum - I have no idea from who or how.

"Most" of the time when I visit the Mayan Riviera I fly into Cancun and take/share a cab usually to Playa where I stay a few days. Then rent a car in Playa del Carmen and drive south for a few days. I have driven as far south as Xcalack which is a stones throw from Belize...but well worth the drive for the rather unique experience.
