If you booked through a travel agent, you have to go through that agent (or agency) to do anything with the cruise line-- Princess won't talk to you. It would do no good to beg for a free upgrade; it's assumed everyone would be interested in a visit from the Upgrade Fairy! Upgrades are given to people who have booked early to make room for last-minute customers who are primarily interested in a bargain rate, and don't want to hear about a cut rate if it's on a suite. "Guarantee" bookings are usually used to fill up the class they're booked for. It's not unheard of for someone to get an upgrade from an inside to an outside or a balcony, but it's rare. Had you booked a specific class, you're much more likely to be offered an upgrade.
