I know you are asking about Tortola, but if you are actually staying on Virgin Gorda, many of the beaches have great snorkeling, especially the one in front of the resort called Little Dix Bay which is a very expensive place to stay.

Try Caribbean Images Tours. Guides are knowledgeable of Marine Life. Yes, they get in the water and swim with you.

I agree, best Snorkel tour is Caribbean Images Tours. We went to Mountain Point on Virgin Gorda. It was great to get away from the crowds. The crew got in the water with us and they pointed things out that we never would have spotted. My kids still talk about what they saw and learned 4 weeks later.

British Virgin Islands

Postby Hank Freid on Mon Apr 14, 2008 4:39 am

Hi,
As my information Tortola is a mountainous island 13.5 miles (19 km) long and 3 miles (5 km) wide, with an area of 21.5 square miles (55.7 square km). Formed by volcanic activity, its highest peak is Mount Sage at 1750 feet (530 m). Tortola lies near an earthquake fault, and minor earthquakes are common. So On Tortola the first rays light up the green slopes that fall from Mount Sage to secluded palm-fringed beaches far below. The first ferry of the day is going out as the first sail boat appears on the horizon. The shops are laying out their West Indian wares: spices, jams, rums, soaps, and hand-crafted jewelery.
