My Trip to EDR

Postby Erin on Thu Oct 23, 2003 11:25 am

We went to EDR 10/11-10/18 and had a wonderful experience. Our vacation was the best trip either of us have ever had! I can't say enough good things about the El Dorado Royale! The weather was beautiful every day. The resort grounds were immaculate and very well landscaped. Our room was fabulous too. We had our own hammock on the patio. The room had a huge bed, a TV armoire, a desk, a table, a Jacuzzi tub with windows and a large open shower. It was very clean and the maid did a great job every day. We also had a refrigerator with beer, water and soda in it. It was restocked everyday. Everyday the maid made a different arrangement with flowers and towels on the bed. Make sure you put your sign on your door that your room is ready to be cleaned. I can't tell you how incredible ALL of the food was. Every night each of us ordered an appetizer, soup and salad, entree and dessert. The Italian was our least favorite but still good. Use the Spa! I had a massage in the morning on the beach for an hour. It was so relaxing. I also had a great pedicure. fun. Wednesday is the Mexican Fiesta at the resort. So much fun! We had our picture taken with a donkey, had shots of tequila and a Mexican feast. They worked all day setting this up. There was a mariachi band and mexican dancers as well. They also set up a row of vendors to shop from. We went to Xel-Ha. I swam with the dolphins here. It was amazing. We swam in the ocean and snorkeled too. This was a beautiful place. Make sure you visit Crococun too if you love animals! Friday night we had a private candle lit dinner on the beach. It
was so peaceful and pretty. We met so many nice people. There was no problem getting reservations for dinner. You just might have to eat at different times. Some nights we ate at 5:30 and some nights at 9. No big deal. Room service food was excellent and fast as well. This place is well worth the money. Every employee is eager to help you and always greets you. I was soooo sad to leave! Make sure you tip house keeping and waiters. They treat you just the same if you don't tip but they all deserve some extra money. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have!

Sounds like you had an awesome time. I am booked in for two weeks over Christmas and, after reading some bad reviews am looking for confirmation that the 5 star rating is well deserved and that all was really great. Any other insights? Thanks. Cheers.

erin!!!!! god some reports have made the Roayle sound like a really bad two weeks in England with no service, we are going in August and have paid a fortune,,,,, its our honeymoon, and i am really worried, the reports have been about not getting up graded to casita suites even though we have paid that already,,, and five people have advised they have had stuff taken from safes, let alone not getting any reservations for dinner, any advise....

Danielle- Like I said in my review, the place was great. There was no smell of sewage, it's the ocean smell that you will find anywhere you stay near the ocean. Nothing terrible. We didn't have brown water or anything like that. We didn't have hot water in our shower the first day. We called on our second day and they were there to fix it within 5 minutes. It worked fine the rest of the time. That was really our only problem.

My husband and I have booked our trip at the El Dorado for this upcoming March. We were originally booked at the Reef Coco Beach, but I was hearing too many horrible reviews so i had our travel agent switch us. Someone please assure me that this place is great. This will be our honeymoon and I'd hate for it to be spoiled! Is it a true five star? I stayed at the Gran Caribe Royale in Cancun about 5 years ago and had an amazing experience there. Beautiful resort! Hopefully, we won't be disappointed.
