Great place to stay in Belize

Postby Amy Karon on Thu Feb 24, 2005 1:22 pm

My husband and I had a fantastic time at the La Milpa Biological Station in the Rio Bravo Conservation Area. I recommend it to anyone going to Belize.

Beautiful place, amazing birding, nice accomodations and good food. Plus the staff were incredibly friendly. A lot of our guided tours were just the two of us and the guide. We went on night hikes, toured deserted ruins, and saw at least 50 different species of birds. All the guiding is included in the price of accomodation, and all the profits all go to support the reserve.

We were in Belize 16 days and had a lot of great times but this was the high point of our trip. It's a fraction of the price of Chan Chich Lodge, the "luxury" lodge that all the tour guides recommend.

Here's the website for La Milpa. You may need to be persistent in confirming your reservation but believe me it's well worth it.

What part of the country is Rio Bravo Conservation Area located in?

It is near Orange Walk. So central Belize, I would say. It is about an hour and a half drive from Orange Walk and part of the way is not paved. However, it was well worth it to get out into the "back-country."

It's northwest Belize I believe - out towards Lamanai - there's good jungle and some great Mayana ruins out that way

You might also want to try out the The Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza. The staff is really friendly and you will surely enjoy your stay here. You can use the pool and other amenities without paying anything. If you need to have constant communication with your friends or work back home, you can rely on their wireless network too.

hi you......
I agree aubout chrisH, It's northwest Belize I believe - out towards Lamanai -It's wonderful and nice.
we depart Belize a new experience awaits us up the Rio Dulce in Guatemala. We will be swapping turquoise seas for the huge fresh water river, sandy islands for a green jungle and fish for monkeys and maybe a jaguar. :D

Great place to stay in Belize

If going to Belize, it is an absolute must to stay on Caye Caulker, amazing snorkelling, laid back friendly locals, turquoise caribbean, fresh seafood including lobster, manatees, turtles, sharks and rays..... The island is just 4 miles long and 600 yards wide, split in two by Hurricane Hattie.

Relax on reggae island
Duration: 4 days / 3 nights
Departure: Daily from San Ignacio,Flores, Belize City (or Chetumal)
Route: Caye Caulker
Belize is a tiny country south of Mexico with sunny tropical islands, coconut palms and sandy roads where everyone walks barefoot. Belize borders on the world's second largest barrier reef and because most of the local populations are descendants of African slaves the place has a distinctly Caribbean flavour. Caye Caulker is a long, narrow island with several hotels, diving shacks, rastafarians and a truly laid-back "relax-man" atmosphere. It's a great place to chill out for a couple of days at the end of your Mayan route trip.

Explore the mountains of the Sierra Maestra and rolling tobacco fields. Try a Baracoa coast and jungle drive to Cuba's coral beaches. We'll help you build your very own Cuba adventure.
