my sister & i stayed at el cozumeleno (cozumel, quintana roo, mexico) 11-14 June 2003. as i am a plus-size woman, i was afraid of hotel accomodations, but trip could not have been any better! vibe is very relaxed and accepting of everyone--eclectic mix of guests-- divers. families (even with very small children), large groups (10+), honeymooners. lots of other texans. there was never a shortage of things to do without even leaving the hotel. ALOT of attention to detail!! we enjoyed mini-golf (lots of places to rest, only course where i have had to move cocktail glasses to putt), bingo, snorkeling, the mexican show ( wed nights), the different theme dinner buffets (wed-mexican, thurs-spanish, fri-caribbean), the tropical drinks, the ocean view, room service for breakfast, cold a/c, the bright matching linens & towels, the friendly staff ALL INCLUDED we also rented a waverunner from the dive shop at the hotel ($50 for a half hour) i rode it, then my sister, then me again and we still had 5 minutes left alot of fun! my sister went parasailing (about 530 ft up--she said it was a blast!) we arranged that through the dive shop also --$55 for about 15 minutes up, $5 for me to ride in the boat with her nice boat ride, too!! snorkeling was amazing--water is very clear here and you can see tons of different tropical fish right outrside the hotel (others saw a barracuda) WEAR AQUASOCKS the rocks are treacherous close to the short pier and have lots of those little black anemones close to long pier there aren't many rocks underwater, but the rocks leading into water are VERY slippery not a lot of vendors at the hotel--2 at elevator near new towers, one near mini golf, none of them aggressive if you want your hair braided, go downtown ($5 taxi) it's only $20 for full head, $40 at hotel the hotel itself is aesthetically pleasing--beautiful mediterranean features-- i wasn't planning to swim in the pools, but they are so well planned and pretty hotel swimup bar joins with other pool under bridge, that pool leads to waterfall and goes under a dome with painted ceiling and mosaics on pool floor make sure you bring a disposable underwater camera and/or a camera with a flash--they are $24 and $25 at the hotel shop food/drink is available from 7am-11pm room service, breakfast, lunch & dinner buffets with generous times, buffets, snack bar (with american food), reservations-required restaurant--no beach wear (we didnt go--thought buffets were OK) karaoke bar is fun, very attentive bartender i didn't think i would go for the shows either (mon, wed, fri nights) but they were great--we watched from our balcony room towels are soft and absorbent and they give you plenty, phone near toilet, nice vanity with bench, moveable magnified mirror attached to wall, hairdryer lovely curtains with white sheers and sliding glass door leads to balcony with big chairs and small table 2 more chairs and table in room, armoire with tv and deep drawers no-charge safe deposit box in room (you need a credit card though or $100 as key deposit) we stowed our stuff behind the tv, nothing was ever touched very firm beds our toilet stopped up once and when we called maintenance it was fixed within 20 minutes we heard one lady complaining about not getting change back from someone at front desk make sure you get a receipt do not worry about how you look in a swimsuit--i weigh 350+ and no one looked at me weird or anything this is not like a cancun meatmarket/ girls gone wild place LOTS of returning guests who come every year we went through a worryfree vacation package, and it really was worry-free sorry this is so lengthy, but i tried to include everything if you have any questions, please email me (amandalena903@aol.com) and i will try to answer promptly and completely cannot say enough good things about this hotel and this vacation thanks again dad!!!
