Try Roatan, Honduras. Beautiful beaches, nice people, safe (no major crime but watch your stuff against petty theft).

Alternatively, try the Grenadines or St Barts - they're pretty exclusive and expensive though.

I found Dominica or St. Kitts to be pretty nice. In all honesty, i think that all the caribbean islands, with the exception of a few, are pretty much all nice and romantic....they all have sandy beaches, and the sun sets and rises in each and everyone of them! =)

The white sands of Antigua are world-renowned and pretty romantic for couples. and you can just continue your romantic trip to Jamaica. :)...or maybe go to St. Martin Island  hmmm

LakeTravis in Austin or Lake Eufaula, Oklahoma are just far enough away to forget Dallas for a couple of days.

If you are planing for vacation with your wife only then Kauai is a best place to go and share happy and romantic movement together .
When staying at a rental cottage in Kauai you will feel the spirit of Hawaii. Much of the Hawaiian culture is lost when staying at a mega resort or condo. These vacation destinations are heavily commercial and sterile. When staying at a rental or cottage. About as Hawaiian as those destinations are that the wait staff wear Hawaiian shirts!
I personally prefer to stay at a Kauai Vacation Rental because it is much more laid back and private.

I'd vote for Vancouver. Even before the Olympics, Vancouver had won several times the ranking of "most romantic city in the world" from various sources.

One of my favourite "conservative quotes":
This is the city with the perfect location. Between the ocean and the mountains Vancouver gives you many choices for a romantic getaway. Take the largest aerial tram in North America to the top of Grouse Mountain. Get scared while walking the Capilano Suspension Bridge. Drive to Whistler for one of the best ski places in the world. In the end explore the nightlife in Gastown.
