Eagle Ray Divers - very Disappointed

Postby NAtavas on Mon Jan 26, 2004 4:44 pm

I wanted to tell about my bad experience with Eagle Ray Divers. I went to Cozumel in January for a week. I have heard a lot of wonderful things about them from this and other message boards and wanted to try it mainly because of their small snorkeling groups. I didn't make a reservation with them in advance but when we called being already there we could get one for Friday so it wasn't a problem. We were told that one of their two beat with pick us up at Allegro resort and take us to three reefs. On Friday morning just an hour and a half before the scheduled time I get a call form Shelley (the customer assistant there) telling me that both of their boats went down on Wednesday and that she left at least two messages with the concierge, and that she is very sorry that we won't be able to make it. I tried to reschedule for the next day and hoped for the best when I was supposed to call back in the evening. But later that day I was thinking about it and realized something. How can it be that it takes three days to fix both boats when your whole business depends on the? I checked with the desk and there were no messages (we got messages from other people, though). We obviously didn't book anything else for that day. So we lost a wonderful day of snorkeling off-shore - our whole reason of coming to Cozumel. IN the evening as expected I got a very polite refusal from Shelley.

I'm sorry to say this; maybe it was just back luck. But I think we were the only two people scheduled to go on that boat and they just didn't want to take us on our own. But why lie, why not say that there is a minimum of 4 or 6 people. It was dirty. So, think twice before booking a trip with them.

We just got back from a cruise. One of the stops was cozumel. I had researched beforehand and made reservations with Eagle ray Divers for a snorkeling and Dive trip. WE had a WONDERFUL time. Our guide was great at showing us the underwater world. He should us stuf we would have never spotted on our on. Chellie was very nice and professional and so was our guide. We couldn't have asked for a better time!!!! PLAN AHEAD! The spots fill up fast!

In reply to NAtavas,
I went with my family in the middle of June, dove for six days 2 & 3 times a day. Each time we were provided with captain, dive master and our choice of dive locations. I was gone for two weeks before I went back to Cozumel at which time I dove by myself with no one else on board & was provided with the exact same service at no additional cost.So I find it hard to believe Eagle Ray refused to take you for any other reason than stated. Cozumel is an island with limited resources, and everything that moves will break down with time.

snorkeling in cozumel with eagle ray

This was a very mediocre trip. We did not see a large amount of fish, and we stay close to shore. For the money, we expected to snorkel further in the ocean for a longer amount of time. The tour guides were helpful though.

Wow, I am shocked...we dove with Eagle Ray every time there, the whole operation is 100% dialed, they are by far the BEST on the island, Chellie, Antonio, Arturo, etc are all the very best, you must have had a bad set of circumstances or a missunderstanding. We will be diving withy Eagle Ray Divers Cozumel again in January.
