Coco View Resort

Postby Jay A. Peterson on Tue Aug 26, 2003 4:19 pm

Just returned from Coco View, 8-23-03. The resort has a serious health problem. Everyone at the resort became ill after a couple of days at the resort. This health problem has been on going and been covered up by the resort. When confronted with the problem the manager apologized and said that they thought they had it under control. When we told them we were going to put the info on Coco Views bulletin booard they removed the bulletin board from the web page.

We had 21 peopl in our group and all became ill. Three other groups who arrived at or near our arrival time, all became ill during their stay.

Avoid the place if you can and if you can not get out of your trip then you should be prepared for a week of health problems.

Just returned from Cocoview 12-6-03. In general everyone in our group remained well, however, I did have a problem with the dog (Maggie), who has a serious skin problem, coming around our table at meals and begging for food, she was disgusting to look at not to mention the smell. I did return home with some serious bug bites that I had to have treated by my doctor even though I used repellant faithfully. It rained almost 80% of the week we were there, so its hard to say whether I would go back or not.

An old post, to be sure, yet this misinformation has to be tracked down, one at a time... and corrected.

The problem at CCV was all over the country of Honduras, certainly on Roatan- it was traced to a Honduran Govt Approved source for cheese.

That was eliminated through research by CCV and the problem went away, for everyone.

CCV still is the single best place for adult divers. If you aren't an adult and you don't place a superp dive operation above all else, skip it.

Best boats, best (long term) divemasters, arguably the best resort based shore dive in the entire Caribbean.

Still the best on Roatan.

hello,
There isn't much I can add to all these great reviews, but I did want to put in a good word for the Beach Houses which are all a short (3-5 minute) bike ride from the main resort (they provide the bikes). I had been worred that we might feel "left out" staying at one of the beach houses, but I was very much wrong!

We had a two bedroom/two bath house with full kitchen and living area right one the beach and it cost less than getting two rooms at Coco View. Our house (#8) was comfy, roomy, convenient and charming. The cleaning ladies were wonderful and I just can't say enough good things about the management.

This is a VERY well-run dive resort. I know some people feel disappointed that there aren't more fish or that some of the coral is a bit beat-up, but there is plenty to see and experience! I think that for Caribbean diving, accessibility and cost--this is a great deal!
thanks!!
