Dominican Republic is one of the best Caribbean destinations to visit.
The island is much bigger then the rest of the islands. I can recoment Santa Domingo, the capital of the republic and the oldest city in the New World.
On the North (Amber) Shore of DR the places to visit are Pueto Plata (make sure you see the Amber Museum there), Sosua and Cabarette. Among other places to visit - Playa Grande and it's famous Robert Trent-Jones golf couse,
Gree-Gree lagoon in Rio San Juan, where you can try local food on Playa Caleton.

A Trip to Punta Cana

Postby lovemymarcoman on Thu Dec 07, 2006 9:04 pm

I am assuming you are asking about vacations in the Dominican Republic. We traveled to Punta Cana, which is on the east coast of the Dominican Republic in May of 2006 and are returning in April of 2007. We have been to many islands and have absolutely fallen in love with a section of Punta Cana called Bavaro Beach. There are many all inclusive resorts on this stretch. The beach is amazing. It is filled with palm trees and powdery white sand. It is exactly what you think a Carribean beach should be and I believe it stretches for 5 miles. If you stay on any of the all inclusives, you can walk the entire stretch of the Bavaro Beach.

Last year, we stayed at the Riu Bambu. I would never recommend it to anyone. It was truly horrific, but their stretch of beach was fabulous. In April, we will be staying at the Majestic COlonial. It is rated #2 on Trip Advisor and is getting great reviews.

HOpe this information helps.

I've been 3 times to Punta Cana. I've stayed at LTI and Caribe Club Princess. I recommend both hotels. LTI is smaller and for more elderly people I think. I lot of German tourists there. The food is very good and the beach is fabulous!
Caribe club Princess is more family oriented. It has 3 pools and the grounds are beautiful! The beach is fabulous. The food is very good and they have 7 restaurants. A lot of French tourists.
I love both hotels and I have stayed 2 times at Caribe Club Princess.
