horses in Cozumel

Please think twice and really look at the condition of the horses before you book the rides. I was just in Cozumel and many of the horses I saw were neglected. They were left tied and standing out during the day with no shelter from the sun and no water in sight. Some have open sores from ill fitting equipment.
I have written to the humane society in Cozumel and I would discourage anyone from from renting horses for horseback riding or from riding in the carts in the shopping district

We were just in Cozumel in Dec. I'm not sure how or where you looked to rent horses for a trail ride. The ones I rented for my two daughters and myself were aged (16yrs-18yrs) but appeared in fine health. All horses thin a little with age. Even though we are experienced riders, due to liability issues, they only use older horses. We had a great ride, the horses were shoed, no soars, well tacked and well manered. Most horses that I have worked with that have been abused also have behavior problems. We did not over worrk them on the ride, and there was plenty of cover and water. The place we went was across the street from the entrance road to the Reef Regency Club. I'm hoping that the better conditions that we found was due to your efforts! Hope you have a better experiance next time!
