Hi all,
we intend to spend our honewmoon (Oct/2003) in the XPU-HA resort, from what we read about the location, beach, lagoon, natural resources it seems great!
But we also read some bad reviews regarding the humidity/smell in the ground floor rooms, the 'not so good' views of some of the rooms (towards other rooms) and the fact that some of the facilities were unavailable due to the lack of visitors.
Can any recent visitor comment on these facts? Other honeymooners comments would also be great...

I took a tour of the Xpu-Ha Palace resort on July 13, 2003 and it definitely is different. The staff is friendly, but remember the resort is in an egological park and is very isolated, you need a bicycle (they provide) or cart to get around unless you like wandering through the jungle. Make sure and reserve a room by the ocean on the 2nd floor, you won't need air-conditioning, the breezes are wonderful. Remember, the resort is in the jungle and is a working ecological park, so not much partying, just very secluded and only visitors come for the beach from the other Palace resorts, as their beaches (Moon Palace and Adventura/Spa are either full of seaweed or the Adventura has no beach). Enjoy if you like the quiet, unusual, jungle surroundings.

3 generations of my family are planning to go to xpu-ha for a week July 17-24. Any suggestions from those who have been there recently?

I just spent a week down at the Adventura Spa Palace (sister hotel to Xpu-Ha) and a whole day at the Xpu-ha. The Adventura has prettier rooms, but the Xpu has more top shelf liquor, friendlier staff (they're the friendliest I met so far in the Cancun area) and very good food! Forget about the smell, bring a candle, it's humid down there and you have a hugh balcony (get a 2nd floor) to lay in the hammock on and open the screen for nice breezes, especially if you're near the ocean. I loved it, & I'm a travel agent, my fellow agent is going there next week because the Xpu-Ha is definitely unique!

Just returned from xpu-ha. It was more than we had hoped. We had downstairs rooms in reef area...perfectly fine. Beautiful fish and coral, wonderfully clean and conveniently located restrooms and restaurants, friendly staff....not a place for those who have to have a lot of night life or crowds of people.
